Carrabassett Valley Academy at Sugarloaf/USA, announced its plans to build an indoor training complex on its campus. The new 100’x160′ “Anti-gravity Center” will house an in-ground skateboard bowl, street skate area, 3 trampoline stations with harnesses, 35 foot climbing wall, and an open area for floor activities such as dryland training, basketball and floor hockey. Whether they do flips, moguls, catch air while racing a downhill or go big in the halfpipe, CVA athletes will have the training equipment to develop the necessary skills and confidence required to maintain balance while in the air.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for all our CVA athletes. For CVA to continue the tradition of producing world class athletes it’s important that we stay on the cutting -edge of new training opportunities”, said John Ritzo, headmaster.
He continued, “We are fortunate to have a Maine foundation, the Deupree Family Foundation, make a generous contribution to the project and encourage others to participate in the project by issuing a challenge grant.”
Jack Deupree, the Deupree Family Foundation spokesperson , stated “this project is so valuable and reaches beyond just athletic training. In the fields of human endeavor, none is more difficult or more important than getting teenagers prepared for their adult lives. I believe in CVA and how they help young people form the habits and values that will guide them for the remainder of their lives. For these reasons I am spearheading the fundraising for this project and am encouraging others to call the school to become involved too.”
In addition to providing world-class dry-land training possibilities for athletes for all four disciplines throughout the year, it will be an opportunity for Summer training camps and will give the Sugarloaf area a top-notch, year-round indoor recreation area. The anticipated completion date is September of 2000.
