North Conway, NH- Cranmore Mountain Resort and its Darkside Terrain Park staff are stoked to announce that they will be working with local Dakine rep Mike Saras to pull off the Dakine Hawaii Retro Fest on Saturday, March 15, 2003, from 10 AM until….

Old school will totally rule the day as the Darkside staff pulls out all the stops to teach the young rippers all about “back in the day.” Plenty of old rides (and riders) will make their way out of the closet (or off the wall) for one last session on the hill. Rumor has it some vintage Craig Kelly’s, P.B’s, and even a few asym decks are being prepped for the event. Props and swag for the oldest boards and snowboard apparel to represent on the hill. Anybody with a vintage Dakine accessory will be immediately rewarded with a cold 180 Energy Drink.

The session, entirely devoted to old school riding and “classic” moves, will commence at the top of the Darkside Terrain Park and work its way down to specially prepared rails and elements. A short course with slalom gates will be set up at the bottom of the terrain park for everyone to “enjoy.” Flashback New Wave music will rule the airwaves and the menu will include plenty of buttering and roast beef. If that doesn’t fill everybody up, surely a free pig roast at the end of the session will. There is also a “surprise musical guest” planned, courtesy of the B-Side Snowboard Shop.

No lesson on snowboarding’s early days would be complete without mentioning Craig Kelly. His influence on the sport, from the first snowboard contests to his evolution as a backcountry rider, has helped make snowboarding what it is today. This event will inform younger riders about Craig’s professionalism and contributions to the sport. Donations will be accepted from event participants and sent to the Canadian Avalanche Association in his memory.

Event sponsors include Dakine, 180 Energy Drink, Spy Optics, B-Side Snowboard Shop and Cranmore Mountain Resort. For more information, call 1-800-SUN-N-SKI or go to: www.cranmore.com.
