BOISE, Idaho – Executives of WestRock Lake Cascade and program managerWashington Group International today announced that construction has begunon the first year-round U.S. destination resort featuring skiing in 20years.

The resort, to be placed on a rise overlooking Lake Cascade, about 100miles north of Boise, encompasses about 3,500 acres and will cost about $1.2billion to construct over the next two decades.

The resort’s primary features:

Signature 18-hole golf course under design by Robert Trent Jones II.

A pedestrian village near an eagle preserve, with striking views of LakeCascade and the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness – the largestmountain wilderness in the lower 48 states.

60 miles of recreational trails for Nordic skiing, mountain biking, hikingand other non-motorized use

2,800 vertical feet of skiing and snowboarding to be served by adual-cable gondola and a summit restaurant

About 2,000 units of housing and several hotels

Boespflug said site activity in the 2002 construction season is focused onroadway rough grading and environmental-related site development such aswetlands protection, both on the resort’s private lands and on adjacentmountain lands. He said four Idaho-based subcontractors, managed byWashington Group and Secesh Engineering, have teams on the ground tocomplete the program by next winter.
