From Simply Straws:
Simply Straws set out to celebrate and spread awareness about their Kickstarter campaign by tapping into the local community of North County, San Diego. The event was held at Fern, a Leucadia-based boutique featuring products made ethically in the USA. Over 100 people were in attendance including the entire Sladics clan, four time Olympian Kjersti Buaas and local hero and founder of the Changing Tides Foundation, Becky Mendoza. Guests of the gathering enjoyed pizzas from URBN in Encinitas, anti-oxidant loaded Yerba Mate drinks and local wine from Fallbrook's Vineyard 1924. The Bondi Barista also came out to create custom coffee magic, while San Diego singer/songwriter Heather Nation performed live music for the crowd. Founder Chanelle Sladics was overwhelmed by the amount of support that poured in from the community.
"I had no clue what to expect and was overwhelmed with happiness with the show of attendance, the excitement for our product and the momentum it has given our campaign. I am really proud to provide a stylish, functional product that is easy to incorporate into your daily life that is proven to offset one of the major problems facing our waterways and food systems."
Guests were encouraged to visit the Kickstarter corner at the venue, and learn more about their mission to fund an all-new stainless steel mason lid, a game-changing product for the brand that will allow their mason line to be sturdier, more sustainable and for the first time, totally spill-proof.
"I am in also in LOVE with our new mason straw lid, said Sladics. "I have been be very patiently waiting for us to upgrade our lids to a stainless steel, rust free, durable, beautiful lid! Our patent pending spill-proof technology has been tried and tested and it works marvelously!"
Guests were also provided with cocktail-sized straws to sip on, something guest Noelle Huerta, blogger at Boho Beach Babe, was excited to try as she'd never used them before.
"I love the look and the feel of the glass straws, plus they are portable," said Huerta. "Chanelle informed us that daily, over 500 million plastic straws end up in the dump and I can't think of an simpler way for anyone to make a dent in the plastic pollution problem than ditching plastic straws. I am a convert and I think I know what everyone is getting for Christmas this year!"
Throughout the night, guests partook in raffle giveaways from ALOHA Collection, Static Climbing Bags and Vagabond Beach towels. Overall, the family-owned business had a successful night with people donating to the campaign and dozens of new pledges to ditch plastic straws for good.
