Multi-million Dollar Transformation Continues with New and
Upgraded Terrain Parks, Hotels, Restaurants and Adventures

PARK CITY, UT (Immediate Release) – Having surged into two Top 10 rankings for North American resorts as a result of a multi-year, multi-million dollar transformation, Canyons Resort is poised to open its 2012/2013 season on Friday, November 23.  This season showcases the diverse terrain, varied adventures, unique events, countless hospitality options and award-winning guest service that have become hallmarks of Utah’s largest and most dynamic ski and snowboard resort.

Canyons’ top accolades ever come from Outside Magazine, which ranked Canyons the #4 resort in North America, and SKI Magazine readers, who ranked Canyons in the Top 10 for the first time ever in the magazine’s 2012-13 resort rankings.  Here are a few reasons why:

Three all-new terrain parks, new precision tree glading and even more investment in snowmaking are several of the new on-mountain highlights. These upgrades complement the state-of-the-art “Orange Bubble” quad chair, still North America’s only heated-seat chairlift; 300 acres of new terrain at Iron Mountain; vastly improved snowmaking capabilities and favorite on-mountain dining options like Cloud Dine and Lookout Cabin.

Meanwhile in Canyons’ Resort Village, all guests, but especially families will love countless enhancements, including the opening of a ninth hotel, a gorgeous renovation of 100+ rooms at Sundial Lodge, several new dining options and a kid-centric retail store at Ski Beach.

“This is a magical time to be at Canyons,” said Mike Goar, the resort’s managing director. “Everywhere I look, we have something new, exciting and memorable taking place.  It reflects how hard our guides (employees) are working to truly make the guest experience extraordinary.”

Canyons is also starring this winter in the 63rd Warren Miller snow sports feature film, “Flow State.”  The film has been playing to sold-out theatres across the country, with Canyons Ski Ambassador and film co-star, Kaylin Richardson, making multiple appearances from coast to coast.

Opening Day Activities Include Kickoff of Canyons Holiday Food Drive
As an added activity on Opening Day, Canyons is launching a Food Drive with Summit County’s largest food pantry, the Christian Center of Park City.  Canyons will be collecting non-perishable food and new baby items from Nov. 23 to Dec. 21 to help meet the needs of 5,000 Summit and Wasatch County families this holiday season.  For more details, visitwww.canyonsresort.com/events.

New for 2012-2013 Season
The following are new amenities that guests can enjoy for the first time this ski season. For more information, please visit www.CanyonsResort.com or call 888.Canyons (888-226-9667).

On the Mountain
Enjoyment of Canyons begins on the mountain, where a summer of construction yields three all-new terrain parks.   The Painted Horse Progression Park offers an introductory “park” experience with basic man-made features and jumps, accessed off of the Saddleback Express lift.  Off of Sun Peak Express, the Transitions Terrain Park brings back Canyons’ signature features such as the gong, while the Elwoods Natural Zone, presented by Burton, takes park adventurers into the trees to negotiate a variety of all-natural features.

Also on the mountain, Canyons continues to expand its snowmaking capabilities to ensure top conditions from Opening Day to the last day of the season.  Although Canyons receives an average of 355 inches annually of the “Greatest Snow on Earth”, the resort has invested more than $1 million in additional infrastructure, increasing  pumping capacity and installing energy-saving features, on top of the addition of an alpine lake for mid-mountain water storage and distribution.

Still the favorite new on-mountain amenity at Canyons, the addition of the Orange Bubble Express dramatically increased Canyons ability to move guests out of the Resort Village and up the hill, while 300 acres of intermediate and advanced terrain at Iron Mountain distributed guests across even more terrain.

Dining
In 2012, The Farm at Canyons was named the “Best New Restaurant in Utah” and its culinary team debuts a new menu this season, rich with carefully sourced ingredients from sustainable farms and suppliers.

Families will flock to Murdock’s, serving fast and fresh offerings for guests in a communal, relaxed dining room in the heart of the Resort Village.  From coffees and cocoas to salads and grinders, Murdock’s focuses on memorable crowd pleasing favorites for the whole family.

Drafts Sports Bar and Pub features more than 50 brews to wash down a wide variety of gourmet burgers, pizzas and appetizers.  Drafts is located in the Westgate building across from the Umbrella Bar.

World-class Adventures
In its first full season, Canyons’ Ultimate Mountain Experience is the most comprehensive winter sports fantasy camp experience ever.  A dozen Olympic and/or USA National Team skiers and snowboarders lead unforgettable customized experiences on the mountain – for individuals or small groups.  Focus on racing, technique, powder or any aspect that suits your ability.

This winter Canyons launches its expanded Snowshoeing program where local guides introduce guests to the beauty of the Wasatch Mountains. Guests can hike a network of snow-covered trails within the resort including trails up to our Alpine Lake, enjoy a gourmet lunch in the warmth of Lookout Cabin, and even snowshoe under the stunning night sky on our Moonlight Tour.

Canyons’ Zip Tour Adventure also returns, offering a thrilling, high-flying ride on the state’s longest zip line – nearly 2,000 feet between Lookout Mountain and Red Pine Lodge.

In the Village
Shopping with kids has never been this fun!  Ideally situated at Ski Beach adjacent to Ski School Check-In, Canyons Kids is the resort’s first retail outlet devoted to our youngest shredders.  From plush toys to board games, ski gear to headwear – plus 50 varieties of new and old-time candy – this is your first stop if Junior forgot something; and your last stop for a collectible from the ski vacation they’ll never forget.

Canyons offers an array of lodging choices for guests, including many multi-room suites with full kitchens that families prefer.  The Waldorf Astoria Park City, recently designated a Forbes 4-star property, has added a restaurant, Powder, while last year’s newcomer Slopes, debuts an honest, fresh and robust “modern mountain menu.”

The Grand Summit Hotel and Hyatt Escala Lodge renewed their AAA four-diamond ratings.

Sundial Lodge, with its unparalleled location in the Resort Village, renovated more than 100 rooms this year installing granite counters, upgraded stainless appliances, flat-screen televisions and much more.

Meanwhile, the ninth and newest property at Canyons is Sunrise Lodge, a Hilton Grand Vacations Club. Opening on November 21, the 83-unit resort offers spacious studios as well as 1, 2, 3 and 4-bedroom suites with well-equipped kitchens.  This ski-in property includes amenities such as a heated outdoor pool/whirlpool spa, fitness center, and ski equipment rental shop.  Sunrise Lodge is located adjacent to Canyons resort village and is the first Hilton Grand Vacations Club in Utah, joining the portfolio of more than 55 HGV Club affiliated resorts worldwide.  Grand opening reservations are available online at www.sunriselodge.hilton.com or by calling 1-800-HILTONS.
