Cops busting up the closing party at the SoCal Burton showroom. These were just a few of the highlights from last year’s Burton World Tour. Somehow, major cities around the globe survived the 2002 tour, when dozens of the world’s best snowboarders invaded snowboard shops, radio and TV stations, theatres and bars to debut the Burton Promo Video and hang out with the locals. This year, we’re doing it all again, sending our best riders out on the streets to show the new 2004 Burton Promo Video, The Process, and get riders stoked for the upcoming snowboarding season.
Last year, Burton Global Team Rider JP Solberg was the only rider who managed to hit every single stop on the entire world tour, and he’ll be at it again this year. “It took me about two months to fully recover from the tour last year – 30 stops, 30 major cities around the world in two months,” recalls JP. “But whatever. I’m young, I can take it. It was good fun, and I was stoked to see how many people appreciate our riding.”
In North America, Burton team riders will hit nine cities, signing autographs at local shops and hanging out with kids, shop employees and media from all over. “I always meet the coolest kids at the World Tour,” says rider Shannon Dunn. “Sometimes, I even meet kids who have emailed me questions or letters in the past. It’s really cool to see kids who love snowboarding as much as we do.”
The riders are really looking forward to the tour again this year and want fans everywhere to come out and meet them. “People should come out and have a beer (if they’re old enough) and enjoy a good time,” says Romain De Marchi. “They get to meet the real crazy me too, HAAAA.” Keir Dillon is looking forward to the tour, too. “For the kids and the riders, it doesn’t get better than this,” says Keir. “You can just hang out with us, talk, watch movies or do whatever you’re into.”
