Burlington, VT (January 7, 2008) — Burton is proud to present the Burton AM Series, an all new U.S. competition series that gives amateur riders around the country a chance to compete for spots in the US Open Snowboarding Championships at Stratton Mountain, Vt. on March 17th — 23rd, 2008.

The Burton AM Series is a regional amateur snowboarding competition series that will hit six resorts across the United States this winter. The events are open for all amateur competitors and will feature men’s and women’s slopestyle and halfpipe competitions. Men’s and women’s first place winners in each discipline will receive a wildcard entry into the US Open Snowboarding Championships. Equal prize money will be awarded to both men and women in the slopestyle and halfpipe competitions: $1,000 for 1st place, $500 for 2nd and $250 for 3rd, in addition to Burton product including boards, bindings, bags and ANON goggles and shades.

“We’ve been doing big national level events like the US Open for years, and it always seemed like we needed a stepping stone at a regional level so riders have the opportunity to get some competition experience in their local area, said Liam Griffin, Events Director for Burton Snowboards. “We launched the AM Series in Europe a few years ago and it has been met with a ton of enthusiasm there, so we’re really excited to bring this event to the States and see what the riders have in store for us at these competitions.

Burton AM Series events are free and open to all competitors regardless of age or gender. Registration is now open and is handled on a first come, first served basis. All competitors must complete a waiver and bring it with them to on-site registration on the day of competition. For all of the details, check out http://www.burton.com/amseries.

All Burton AM Series stops in the US will be part of the annual Burton Demo Tour Super Stop events, where riders can test ride the latest Burton Snowboard gear for FREE at their favorite local resort. The season’s 10 Super Stops also feature a dedicated sponsor village and after-parties.

SoBe Beverages will be on-site, handing out samples at each event and giving out limited edition SoBe apparel.
