Big Bear Lake, Calif., Monday February 16, 2004 — On January 8, 2004 BigBear Mountain Resorts (BBMR) introduced “The Park Wide Open #1″ a 9-dayparty featuring several unique events and a plethora of film and photoopportunities. Bear Mountain Resort (Bear Mountain) and Snow Summit MountainResort (Snow Summit) have had one of the best snowmaking runs in severalyears, along with a couple of good natural snow storms creating almostperfect conditions. With the deepest snowpack in six years, park operationscrews have been able to truly build the “All-Mountain Park” to the scope ofwhat it was intended to be when the concept was originally developed overtwo years ago. “It is great to have plenty of snow to work with to build”The Park” to the caliber that it should be. We have upwards of 50 jibs inplace with several old favorites and brand-new signature metal coming thisweek. We also have over 100 snow features all over the resort. We are trulyexperimenting with using the natural terrain of the mountain to create someunbelievable unique terrain. From an artificial cornice going in on Grizzlyto the string of Moto-style banked turns on Rips and the road-gap onShowtime, we letting the imagination of more than 50 park development teammembers run wild,” stated Chris Winslow, park operations supervisor forBBMR.

In addition, the park crew will be putting in a double-transfer-gap onGold Rush, a big new line of unique features on Gambler including a hugestep-down and table, a massive Dragon’s Back double-roller-gap and a 35-footquarter-pipe along with everything already in place all over the mountain. The only Superpipe in Southern California is only going to get better ascrews bring in a brand new Zaug pipe cutter to put on the finishing touches.

Over at Snow Summit, the Westridge terrain park is looking better than ishas since before the days of the Super Park. “While most of the eventsduring the “Wide Open” are at Bear Mountain we are absolutely including SnowSummit. Riders, filmers and photographers will find some very compellingterrain over at “The Park Westridge” including old favorites like Wisemanand Light Pole hip,” offered Winslow.

The park development for the “Wide Open” has actually been ongoingthroughout the entire season with major contributions from the likes of MiahPebley, Chris Winslow, Mike Stevenson, Tex McCullar, Desy Hauer, AlanGriffith, Kory Klouzer, Dan Zon, Clayton Shoemaker and Mike Hernandez alongwith their very important support staff. Chris “Gunny” Gunnarson and MikeBinnell will be on-site prior to the kickoff of the “Wide Open” to add extrasupport and expertise for final build up of “The Park”. Binnell will beassisting Tex McCullar with the Superpipe and Gunny will be available toassist with the build up of some of the larger features being built for theevent.
