Bear is Back

Big Bear Lake, CA—”The Park at Bear Mountain introduces 20 new features for the 2006-2007 season for a total of 100-plus jibs, 150-plus jumps, 50 terrain features, a standard halfpipe and Southern California’s only Superpipe. And with more than 23 jibs and 17 jumps currently open throughout “The Park Run and “Progression Alley, Bear Mountain currently has more terrain features open than any other California resort.

“We held off opening for five days, so we could build out The Park with the features we’re famous for, said Brent Tregaskis, general manager of Bear Mountain. “No other California resort can compete with the number of features we have in place today.

Bear Mountain staff workers were employed full time during the off-season for building and maintenance of all terrain park features to ensure they are in perfect form. The new features include:

Two launch boxes, two double-sided tranny wall rides (11-foot-high), a single barrel down-flat-down rail (24 feet long), a single barrel downhill rail (24 feet long), a down-flat-down box (30 feet long), eight Juice boxes (four 20 feet long and four 12 feet long), a runway box (16 feet long, 1 ? feet high, 5 feet wide), a mini double-sided tranny wall ride (six feet high), a curved box (24 feet long, a mini rainbow box (12 feet long, 2 feet tall, 20 inches wide), and a kinked rail (15 feet long).

Also new for the season is a sponsorship by Snow Park Technologies, which specializes in terrain park planning, design and construction along with consultations of parks, pipes and events worldwide. SPT provides ideas and solutions for the complex and ever changing snow sports industry. As an official SPT park, Bear Mountain is committed to designing, maintaining and operating its terrain park program with a level of quality and consistency that exemplifies the SPT reputation.

Early-season lift ticket prices of $39 adults (22 and older), $34 young adults (13 to 21) and $14 children (7-12). Children 6 and under are free. These early season rates are subject to change at anytime. Tickets are available for purchase at Bear Mountain.

And just in time for Christmas, Big Bear Mountain Resorts Gift Cards are currently available for purchase by phone or online. Gift cards may be used anywhere at the resorts, from shopping at the Sports Shops to purchasing lift tickets.

Premature Jibulation – An early season jam format jib contest presented by the Rome Snowboard Design Syndicate. Expect good, clean shred fun with no entry fee and free eats. Registration from 8 to 9:30 a.m.

Volcom PB & RJ – The Peanut Butter and Rail Jam is Volcom Stone’s amateur snowboard series. There are two divisions, 16 and under and 17 and over. The event is absolutely free, on a first come first serve basis, and boasts tons of free prizes and food.
