More about the Bill Stewart edition Camel Toe board

The 1415 winter will be the third season for the Camel Toe snowboard. In this time it has quickly picked up fans, ranging from single week holiday-makers to committed season shredders. A cut down tail allows the Camel Toe to be ridden 5-10 cms shorter than a usual backcountry board, without sacrificing any float and the short tail keeps it very maneuverable in tight trees. As well as being unsurpassed on powder and in the backcountry, the camel toe also handles incredibly well for all mountain riding and on groomers, where its camber and sidecut provide responsive and lively turning, while its soft-mid flex keeps it playful and forgiving. The eye catching outline shape is just a bonus!

Sometimes the best things happen from chance encounters. In May 2013, the boys from Low Pressure Studio were in San Clemente, California for meetings with TWS and Snowboarder Mag. While there, it would have been rude not to surf, but the water wasn’t warm enough for ‘boardies only’, so they stopped in at literally the nearest surf shop to the beach.

As luck would have it, this was Bill’s shop and he was in! Bill Stewart is widely credited as being one of the fathers of the modern long board. He started his board company 30 years ago, Stewart Surfboards, who are known to this day for their custom shapes and eye-popping graphics.  Bill is a very friendly guy and struck up a conversation with Danny and Dennis. They quickly got onto talking about Bataleon Snowboards and their 3D 3BT base shapes. Bill said he had made a snowboard with a 3D base and metal edges … in 1981! He had shown it to (and being brushed off by) Jake Burton and the board had been in his man cave ever since.

Arrangements were made to visit Bill’s man cave and see the board. The similarities to the Camel Toe in outline and base shapes were immediately apparent, all already present in a thirty years old, hand made snowboard that was clearly years (if not decades) ahead of the game. Bill’s prototype had a very similar pointed spoon nose and cut down, flat tail to that is used on the Camel Toe for ultimate powder performance, the bonus being that the graphic is also a timeless classic.

A plan was quickly hatched for a collaboration special edition camel toe, featuring a topsheet and base graphic taken directly from Bill’s board. So the best all mountain powder surfer on the market just got even better! Everyone (including Bill) is super stoked on the outcome. Bill himself even came over to Europe to present the board at the sales meeting and lent out his original prototype, which has been around the world on the trade show tour.

The Camel Toe will be released as both a regular edition and the special ‘Stewart Edition’ in the sizes 153, 158 and 162, so look out for them!
