STYLEWARS: AUSTRALIA’S PREMIER SWATCH TTR WORLD SNOWBOARD TOUR EVENT

There is only one week to go before Australia’s premier snowboard event, Stylewars, kicks off in full force. With $15,000 in cash prizes and valuable 4-star world tour points up for grabs, a star-studded international and local line-up of riders will be battling it out, including current World Number One, Gjermund Braaten from Norway. In addition, 2009 Stylewars champion Sebastien Toutant from Canada will be back to defend his title after making history last year with the first Backside Double Corked 1260 ever landed in major competition. Also confirmed is fellow Canadian Charles Reid, returning to Stylewars after winning the title in 2008, and 2010 European X-Games Slopestyle Gold Medallist Eric Willett.
Canadian Mark McMorris, who is currently sitting at TTR world-rank number 4, will also be fighting for the Stylewars title, along with Kevin Backstrom from Sweden, currently number 8.
Local rider Robbie Walker will be a hot Australian contender for the Stylewars title, being the only Australian rider to make the Burton NZ Open Slopestyle finals in Cardrona last week. Joining him with be other Aussie riders Ryan Tiene, Clint Allan, Jye Kearney and a line up of Australia’s best to steal some of the glory from the invading internationals.
Three days and four-nights running, Stylewars is notorious for back-to-back world-class snowboarding and entertainment. With nightly parties an essential ingredient of this 5-Star Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour event, Stylewars 2010 is set to rock the foundations of Falls Creek for another fantastic year.
The opening party on Sunday the 22nd of August features Aussie rockers CALLING ALL CARS and Brisbane punk group DZ. Monday night brings one of Australia’s best electro acts, BAG RAIDERS, and Tuesday night features SPACE INVADAS, KATALYST and DJ DANIELSAN.
Signalling the end of three days of world-class riding in Falls Creek’s immaculately-built snowboard park, the final day of competition closes with the famous rail event ’28 Stairs’, held under lights displaying the riders’ throw down everything they have left. Accompanying the 28 Stairs event will be three-time DMC Champion DJ PERPLEX playing till late.
