Giving back to the sport that made them, MGT Snowboard Camp has announced the addition of the MGT Academy to their women’s snowboarding program. For years, MGT has been offering a major helping hand to their campers, offering them opportunities to showcase their skills on an international scale. MGT has been breeding and scouting girls, like Raewyn Reid and Bev Vullumier who are now major threats on the professional scene. Both girls are up for the Transworld Snowboarding Magazine Rookie of the Year award. The MGT Academy is a continuation of the camps commitment to progressing women’s snowboarding and ensuring the success of each camper. The MGT Academy Alumni (coaches) will choose two stand-out campers from each winter camp to create a profile to showcase their skills for a chance to win a full year sponsorship, and a travel budget compliments of MGT’s and their sponsors. The MGT graduate will be tracked and marketed throughout the year and invited to exclusive events that will allow them to prove themselves in a growing female snowboard industry.
MGT has for 7 years now been offering a “coached by the pro’s” program that includes both winter park camps at premier resorts across Western Canada and summer programs with valuable industry partners such as High Cascade Snowboard Camp and South America Snow Sessions.
In 2009, MGT will be holding three, two-day winter camps, the first being a camp at Canada Olympic Park on Dec13th-14th, the venue for the first ever Burton Canadian Open in February. Close on it s heels is another camp for the coastal crowd at Grouse Mountain in North Vancouver Jan 3rd-4th. To cap off the season, MGT is once again returning to Alberta, its original breeding grounds, to session Mt. Norquay’s re-vamped and professionally cut snowboard park on April 4th-5th.
After a bit of down time, MGT returns to the snowboard game with their summer sessions: “summer slush” or “cold rush”. Offering the best of both worlds, MGT is teaming up once again with High Cascade Snowboard Camp in Mt. Hood, Oregon and with South America Snow Sessions in Bariloche, Argentina to make winter in summer. Stay tuned for more information in the new year….
In its 7th year of operations, MGT is still kickin’ it and still one of the only camps of its kind in North America. With help and support from friends and sponsors, MGT is committed to the progression of women in snowboarding and aims to have another incredibly successful season in 2009.
