Sherman Oaks, CA – The Paul Mitchell American Snowboard Tour, the nation’s longest running professional and amateur snowboard tour will once again shred the slopes of California’s premier resorts. Presented by JanSport backpacks, the American Snowboard Tour features the world’s top snowboarders competing in Half-Pipe, Snowboard Cross, Big Air and Giant Slalom disciplines.

In addition to significant prize money, riders will be competing for Olympic qualification points as the AST events are sanctioned as “Continental Cup” and FIS level events. Riders will also compete for the “Paul Mitchell Cup” which awards direct entry into the U.S. Nationals in April and an invitation to the 2002 Winter X-Games. The Paul Mitchell Cup will be awarded to the overall men’s & women’s half-pipe and alpine champions from the American Snowboard Tour and the Paul Mitchell Board Frenzy tour.

The AST is be open to all competitors but requires a USSA membership to compete. The Paul Mitchell American Snowboard Tour has been the training ground for many of America’s top professional and Olympic snowboarders over the past ten years. Rider’s who have competed and been overall champions from the AST include world cup champion Tricia Byrnes, Ross Powers, 1998 Olympic bronze medalist, JJ Thomas, Kier Dillon and Danny Kass. The AST will continue to include snowboard alpine disciplines at it’s events.

This season, the American Snowboard Tour will be televised in four episodes of “Core Culture,” a one-hour alternative sports program on USA Network. “Core Culture” will air on Sunday morning’s. Each show will be aired twice. Check local listings for specific airdates.

The 2001 Paul Mitchell American Snowboard Tour will visits 3 premier resorts in California. The first event will take place January 20 & 21 at Big Bear Mountain Resort in Big Bear Lake, CA. The Big Bear Mountain event will feature half-pipe on Saturday and double big air on Sunday. The AST will then go to Snow Summit Resort, also in Big Bear Lake on February 23 – 25. The Snow Summit event will offer Boardercross competition on Friday the 23rd, half-pipe on Saturday the 24th and Giant Slalom on Sunday the 25th. The AST will finish it’s 2001 season at Northstar at Tahoe on March 9 & 10. The Northstar event will feature giant slalom on Friday the 9th and half-pipe on Saturday the 10th.
