March 18, 2011 (Girdwood, Alaska) – Alyeska Resort has announced the 2011 Chugach Open has been cancelled. The event was scheduled for March 24 – 27, 2011, after being postponed for one week past the original dates in anticipation of forecasted precipitation. The storm failed to deliver any substantial accumulation and due to an unusually low amount of snowfall this ski season, conditions are not optimal for national-caliber big mountain competition.

“The decision was made to cancel because we cannot offer a big mountain venue at this time due to conditions,” said Di Hiibner, ski area general manager. “The snow accumulation that we were hoping for did not happen nor did it even come close to improving conditions. We do plan to try again in 2012.”
