Ski, Snowboard, Wakeboard, and Waterski All In One Day! 8th Annual Gates & Wakes Fun Day and Pro Challenge Benefit Event Held at Alpine Meadows Ski Resort and Lake Tahoe May 1 & 2
Tahoe City, CA. The 8th Annual Ski Nautique Gates & Wakes Fun Day andPro Challenge returns to Alpine Meadows Ski Resort Saturday, May 1 & 2.The unique event allows competitors to experience a quintessential Tahoesports day by skiing or snowboarding in the morning at Alpine Meadowsand wakeboarding or water skiing on Lake Tahoe in the afternoon.
The contest has three combinations from which competitors may choose:snow ski / water ski division, snow ski / wakeboard division, orsnowboard / wakeboard division.
Competitors may be surprised to see professional waterskiers and snowskiers Daron Ralves, Glen Plake, Tamara McKinney, but not to worry;these ringers and others will compete against each other in the ProChallenge. Everyone of all ability levels is welcome to compete in theopen division.
The Gates & Wakes Fun Day was created by West Coast Correct Craft’s VicePresident, Bob Bense. “What a great day – to be on both the slopes andthe water within the same timeframe, especially when it’s 90 degrees inthe valley, and most people have completely forgotten about snow skiingat Tahoe,” said Bense. “Partners Correct Craft and Alpine Meadowshelped me make this dream a reality! Come help us close one ski seasonand start another.”
Back this year is the Disabled Challenge! We encourage all disabledskiers and boarders to join us in our efforts to make this year’s eventa success for Disabled Sports. Also back this year is the YouthDivision. It’s a chance to catch a glimpse of future pros.
The competitions will begin the morning of May 1 at Alpine Meadows SkiResort, with snow skiers and snowboarders competing in the giant slalomformat. After descending the slopes, skiers and riders will have abuffet lunch courtesy of Sunnyside Resort and then launch onto LakeTahoe for the freestyle waterski and wakeboard portion of the event,towed by Correct Craft Ski Nautiques and Air Nautiques. The top threefinishers in each division will win prizes provided by event sponsors.
The entry fee is $56 for adults and $46 for children 12 and under. Feeincludes lift tickets, lunch, and boat tows. There is a $67 fee forthose who would like to compete in this year’s Two-Round Slalom eventtaking place on Friday and Saturday. Event proceeds are donated to theDisabled Sports Association.
