Howdy from Silverton Mountain,
Another 20” of new snow fell overnight bringing the 9 day storm total to 79”. The latest round of snow brought road closures with it, as the visibility is down to 10 feet with extremely heavy snowfall. The County road to Silverton Mountain is now closed at this time. The road might re-open by Friday morning which would allow the ski area to be open for skiing on Friday. Riders should be sure to check silvertonmountain.com for the latest on road closures.
Red Mountain Pass highway 550 is also closed at this time due to avalanche hazard. 550 may stay closed until the weather improves. Highway 550 to the south Molas and Coal Bank passes are currently open with spot closures for avalanche control. Coal Bank and Molas passes could close at any time.
With all the fresh snow the riding will be absolutely fantastic this weekend. Silverton Mountain now has a 75” base, which is substantially deeper than average this time of year.
