2006 Burton New Zealand Open Announced

Lake Wanaka, New Zealand—Many of the world’s top snowboarders will transform Lake Wanaka into a high energy, action-packed snowboarding meccca when the Burton New Zealand Open returns to Snow Park NZ August 3-5.

Over the last four years, the Burton NZ Open has come to represent the pinnacle of snowboarding in New Zealand and the Southern Hemisphere, and this year’s contest features the promise of Olympic gold medallists and world champions in the field for three days of halfpipe, quarterpipe and slopestyle action.

New for this year are the Gravis Open Sessions for four nights of some of New Zealand’s finest musical talent. After an exciting day of competition on the hill, Lake Wanaka’s town center will rock to the beats of New Zealand’s urban roots, rock, hip hop and drum ‘n’ bass scenes at four full-on after parties from August 2-5 at the Lake Wanaka Centre.

Reuben Yeoman, event organizer, said, “The New Zealand Open is the first stop of Burton’s Open series before it moves on to Australia, Japan, Europe and the USA. We’re able to bring new ideas to the table and try new things because of our size, energy and the receptivity of the local scene.
