HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (February 28, 2008) – Roxy is pleased to announce that the fourth annual Roxy Chicken Jam, presented by Schick® Quattro for Women®, will be held at Mammoth Mountain, California March 28 – 30, 2008. The combined total prize purse this year has risen to more than $150,000; $40,000 for the Roxy Chicken Jam and $110,000 awarded to the 2008 Women’s World Champion for the Swatch Ticket to Ride World Snowboard Tour (TTR).
As one of the biggest and most popular all-women’s snowboarding events in North America, the new venue at Mammoth Mountain will set the backdrop for an expanded festival this year. Roxy will host a free music concert with the bands Silversun Pickups and Alberta Cross in Mammoth Village on Saturday March 29 at 7:00 p.m. as well as a special ‘mascot’ costume Superpipe contest and a sponsor village offering free activities for spectators.
“We’re excited to relocate the 2008 Roxy Chicken Jam to our own backyard at beautiful Mammoth Mountain, California and increase the prize offering for these tremendous athletes,” said Randy Hild, Executive Vice President, Roxy Global Marketing. “It has always been a great event, but with the new venue, higher prize purse, music concert, expanded festival area, and a championship title on the line, this year is going to be epic.”
As the final six-star Women’s TTR event, the contest is one of the most prestigious and anticipated all-women’s snowboard events in the world and is the deciding event for the women’s TTR title crown. The riders will also vie for the bonus Schick® Quattro for Women® $3,000 Best Trick in Superpipe and Zumiez $3000 Best Trick in Slopestyle, to be given to the rider with the most progressive and astonishing maneuvers in each respective event. The best female snowboarders from around the world flock to the Roxy Chicken Jam each year including top Roxy team athletes Torah Bright – 2007 Women’s TTR World Champion and X Games gold medalist; Kjersti Buass – 2006 Olympic bronze medal snowboarder; as well as other Roxy team-riders Tania Detomas, Erin Comstock, Amber Stackhouse and Alexis Waite. In addition to the Roxy team-riders, world-renowned snowboarders like Gretchen Bleiler – 2008 X Games Superpipe gold medalist, and Jaime Anderson will also be competing. Although athletes are invited, the first day of competition will include a qualifier contest for coveted wildcard spots into the main event.
The 2008 Roxy Chicken Jam is presented by Schick® Quattro for Women®. Additional sponsors include ROCKSTAR Energy Drink, Zune, JBL, Paul Mitchell, Zumiez, Swatch Ticket to Ride (TTR) World Snowboard Tour and Mammoth Mountain. FUEL TV will air the Roxy Chicken Jam on Tuesday May 13 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT during its Snow Pack snowboard programming block.
