Olympic Outlook: As the first to land a backside 1440 triple cork in 2011 and add the trick consistently to his runs, Mark is favored to win gold at Sochi. Like Shaun White in pipe, most riders are playing catch-up with Mark as they try to put together a run as technical and consistent as his. Mark thrives under pressure and with rail tricks as difficult as his jumps, he’s the one to beat.
Potential Downfall: Mark broke his rib after hanging up on a rail during his 2014 X Games slopestyle run just two weeks before the Olympics. He’s still planning to ride at Sochi, but that injury could hold him back. Fellow Canadian Max Parrot is also proving to be a new threat to Mark with his back-to-back triple corks.
