One of the best selling boots of all time, and definitely the most popular pair from Vans, is available for 2017 in a signature model from one of snowboarding’s hardest working riders. The Hi-Standard is street/park/backcountry workhorse Jake Kuzyk’s first pro model boot, and he’s in it because he likes the simple, clean style and because the comfort and fit aren’t altered much between day one and day 51. Jake looks for consistency in a snowboard boot. “I want it to feel the same every day for as long as it can,” he says.
Jake’s style is cool and collected, like the casual Hi-Standard, and the traditional lacing offers dependable support that can be customized no matter the day’s objective. It’s naturally flexible, making it ideal for park, but reinforced lace loops allow it to be pulled extra tight when target terrain calls for added support. The Reverse Waffle outsole adds traction under the ball of the foot for hiking slick stairs or boot packs, and the footbed has additional cushioning under the heel and forefoot to absorb impacts without compromising board feel. The liners can be heat-molded to expedite achieving a perfect fit, and the internal “web” harness helps further secure the liner inside the boot before lacing begins.
Traditional lacing, waffle outsole, and lightweight cushion without bells or whistles. The Hi-Standard has been a staple in the Vans line for over 15 years, proof that there’s not always a need to change something that has already won itself over with the best.
