Men’s Patagonia Primo Pants ($399)

Top-shelf shell pants

It’s no wonder why these pants are labeled ‘Primo.’ They’re one of the best technical snowboard pants I’ve come across. Their ergonomic cut is perfect for long days of splitboarding, sleddin’ and shreddin’, and gives you plenty of room for tweakin’ without fear of tearing. The minimal pockets keep you from stuffing your pockets, yet offer all the space you need. But the most notable characteristic is the 3-layer Gore-Tex shield they provide. Bring on the soggiest of Northwest days and you’ll still stay dry thanks to this fabric, the DWR coating and the meticulously taped seams. The micro, weatherproof zippers are impenetrable, but maybe not the most reliable in the long haul. Only time will tell….and Patagonia will gladly repair them down the line if need be.

Another piece that snagged my attention is the simple boot gaiter clasp that easily seals out snow even when trudging through the deep. It’s failsafe and performs far better than most hook closures found on just about every other pant. The last part worth praise is the boot cut—it doesn’t drag, so forget scuffing these pricy pants in the parking lot. And yep, they come in black.
