Got an Old GoPro Camera? GoPro Wants to Buy it Back

Do you have an old GoPro kicking around, collecting dust? GoPro wants to buy it back and get a new camera in your hands. Likely an effort to stimulate sales, GoPro just announced its “Trade-up Program,” which essentially offers existing GoPro owners discounts on new GoPro’s when they send in their old ones.

A camera “trade-up” will get you $100 off a new HERO5 Black, or $50 off a HERO5 Session. The condition of the camera you send in doesn’t matter— smashed to smithereens, or still in working order,— GoPro doesn’t care. They’re just interested in getting the latest models of cameras in your possession.

“Our HERO5 cameras are the best we’ve ever made. And when paired with GoPro’s new software, they unlock the simplest, most powerful mobile storytelling solution yet,” said CJ Prober, GoPro’s Chief Operating Officer. “Our Trade-Up Program allows us to introduce existing customers to the modern GoPro experience and prepare our community for the new software enhancements ahead,” he continued.

Leveraging your old camera to get a deal on a new one seems pretty easy. Visit the GoPro Trade-Up website, select the new camera of your choice, and follow the instructions to return your old GoPro. Once GoPro gets that oldie back, they’ll process the discount and ship out a new, spiffy, camera of your choice. Returned junk cameras will be recycled via zero landfill, bonus!

If you’ve been wanting a new GoPro, but just haven’t pulled the trigger yet, this may be an opportunity you don’t want to pass up.
