TransWorld SNOWboarding 2018 Gear Guide Online

At TransWorld SNOWboarding we believe in testing product. What looks good on the shelf doesn’t always perform in the mountains. Each season, we assemble a comprehensive and eclectic crew of testers to help us sift through hype and find gear that performs. This extensive team—some staff, some ex-pro, some amateur, all rippers—spent the past season pitting the newest products in the game against one another to determine which would perform best for Winter 2018. Boards were beat up and broken, gloves were shredded, boots packed out, goggles scratched, and helmets scuffed. Sure, we have a good time doing it, but the purpose of all this to provide you with a better idea of what you’re looking for when walking into (or logging onto) your favorite snowboard retailer.

In addition to our 19th annual Good Wood board test, which awarded 44 boards with the year’s top honors, we’re proud to showcase our Tested + Approved section in which over 500 products were tested but only a small fraction made the final cut. Collected is a curation of product that TransWorld SNOWboarding staff is especially hyped on. We’ve also included our Brand Product Showroom, where the brands progressing snowboard product highlight some of their favorite gear for the year. We hope you find something in here that gets you fired up to go snowboarding.

2018 Good Wood Test Results

The Best Snowboards of 2018

You find a good snowboard by riding a bunch of snowboards. That’s what Good Wood is. Starting nearly twenty years ago, we’ve run through thousands—core shots, delams, broken tails, edge blowouts, snapped noses—with the goal of providing a look at each respective season’s best options. This year we chose the steeps of Snowbird, Utah, for the all-mountain category and the flowing features of Carinthia at Mount Snow, Vermont, for the park portion.

With the top-notch crop of talent, knowledge, and personality that comprise TransWorld’s staff and testers, it’s a crazy marathon of sessions and hot laps that last sunrise to sunset with just enough time for hot tub beers before bed. After all the comments and rankings are in, we have the data to determine which boards get the stamp of approval. In short, know that if it’s in here, the wood is good.

Armed with testing criterion, our riders rated each boot, binding, helmet, glove, goggle, and pack while on the road and hot-lapping their home resorts in snowy locations from California to Colorado to the East Coast. The products herein represent the pinnacle of fit, functionality, and design. Click though the reviews, and dive into our honest feedback. We want you to put those hard-earned pennies towards products that will legitimately improve your season.
