A massive Pacific storm has smacked into the Western U.S. and California’s coast is seeing flash flooding up near Santa Cruz and torrential downpours in L.A.—for the West Coast mountains, this means: snow. The Eastern Sierras are already under several inches and the winds are whipping. The good news—according to weather.com, “this is just the beginning. The rain and heavy wind that is slamming northern California this morning is just the beginning of a 2 to almost 3-day event that will not only impact California but eventually the interior West, too.” The crews at Mammoth Mountain are already at work—readying themselves for the first major dump of the season. Mammoth’s PR Manager Daniel Hansen reported only moments ago, “The storm is looking great right now. It started snowing around 7am at Main Lodge and is now coming down pretty strong—about 4 inches on the ground right now. Everyone here is pretty stoked. If this storm lives up to its hype, we might be spinning the lifts a bit early this year. There is definitely potential.” At 5:30 this morning, the National Weather Service issued a Special Weather Advisory for Mono County—high winds and precip from a storm they are characterizing as “intense.” We’ve got our fingers crossed and hope—like you—that we’re motoring up to Mammoth Mountain sooner than later.
