Olympic Outlook: Danny is perhaps the one rider going to the Olympics who best embodies the spirit of snowboarding (and possibly the Grateful Dead). He’s loose, flowing, and innovative in his approach to the pipe, doesn’t take things too seriously and win or loose, looks like he’s having more fun than any other competitor. While many riders stick to their tried-and-true runs, Danny has experiments with rare combos like a backside 360 to switch method and constantly remixes his trick list from contest to contest. It’s been a long road back to the US team after a drunken ATV accident sidelined him just before the Vancouver 2010 Games, but after his latest X Games win Danny looks like he’s riding better than ever.
Potential Downfall: Creativity and style are great in theory, but will the judges at Sochi reward Danny’s lines over the bigger spins like Shaun and IPod have? Either way, you can’t loose when you watch Danny ride.
