Five-hundred years ago Nostradamus predicted that in the summer of Year 2000 a juggernaut by the name of Peter Line would hurl himself into the outer limits of space without the air of fire, horses, or catapults. And upon his return to Earth, Peter would be celebrated for the first time on the cover of TransWorld SNOWboarding. The cutting down of millions of trees to make the magazine, however, would spark a giant battle between one-eyed panda bears and right tailed lemurs, thus disrupting the Earth’s polarity and causing it to veer off course of its orbit and plummet into the black cold void “coined space.” Damn doomsday profits.

Designing the cover of our biggest magazine in the last three years to look like a ‘zine might be considered intentional suicide by many of our “hardcore” readers out there. However, the corporate big wigs here at the office informed us it was complete marketing genius on our part. And after reaping the benefits of our hard work, they’ll sink that much deeper into their leather La-Z-Boys and continue to watch the bottom line grow. While we’ll continue to sit in our cubicles and wrack our brains, so that they may purchase another luxury automobile to add to their collection. Perhaps because the sky was the color of money it got Gian Simmen’s goat at the Crystal Awards and inspired him to leap from this metamorphic heap of rocks. Perhaps not.

Trips to foreign countries are somewhat hit or miss. And my trip to Sweden was no exception. The weather was crappy for fourteen days straight, two of the riders bailed out at the last minute, and a snowboarder aired out of a quarterpipe and landed right on Whitey’s leg. But I guess it wasn’t all bad, there were actually some good times, like the day Jacob Soderqvist was doing these frontside lipslides. We were sessioning a park just outside his hometown of Falun and it was closed to all, except Jacob’s friends. In between runs, we’d chill at a small shack at the bottom of the hill, barbequing, drinking some frosties, and listening to one of his friends spin records. We snowboarded ‘til it got dark and then hung out for another hour. It had o be the most fun I had the entire trip, Oh wait, I guess the two night I spent with a Norwegian aerobic instructor were pretty sweet, too. –Nathan Yant Bjuras Ski Center, Falun, Sweden
