Same shit as always from this guy. Ridiculous special effects with half ass snowboarding. Spend about a quarter of the time on actually filming rather than after effects and someday you make make a real snowboard video… which isn’t something that they post on msn.com. Start doing special effects or snowboarding… not both.

Editing and special effects are legit. The snowboard shots are very half assed. You can give any kid a 3ccd cam and get the same shots.

making clone movies is mad easy but time consuming as hell; all you do is do it in layers and mask things out, not hard, especially with snowboarding (hardest part was prolly the high five, which is a joke too really
you can notice it at :43 how the table shifts a lil bit–that means the camera angle moved a touch or something moved.
i like his vids and all but they are not hard, just go dl AE from somewhere and youtube the stuff (cloning, teleporting, lightsabers, etc), you can do it all in a couple hrs.

Because I’m not a special effects artist. I never said his AE was easy. He doesn’t know a thing about SNOWBOARD videos. He knows a lot about AFTER EFFECTS. He keeps working on making his effects better, instead of his filming. That’s why he’s a joke in my opinion. No serious snowboard film maker will ever look at this kid on a serious scale…. not one.

Obviously no one else makes em because no one wants to be a copycat(and giving credit where its due hes the best at it). I dot think he was hating, just staying it not as crazy as some might think. The editings sooo sick but like justin meyer said in his interview, editing and filming these days is starting to take away from the main goal, the riding itself, at the end of the day its still just a nosepress, but still sick vid.

Thats great because I care more about flash effects than a good flick as well. Your portrayal of how “rad” snowboarders are because they love to take a break from riding to go play beer pong was breath taking. Good shot selection, good filming, and good riding. Take a look at any of Carlino’s videos. Then watch a Benson video. They don’t even compare.
A real snowboard video is one where you can look past the effects and still see good riding, shooting, and clean editing… not just crazy special effects. Adding a ton of special effects to EVERY SHOT doesn’t make it a good video.

Critisizm is ok because it helps give feedback but when you are on here dissing something that somebody worked so hard on and talk about how easy it is but at the same time, you post with a false name because you dont have anything to show for yourself which obviously true otherwise you would of had your name which to look up on a snowboard video. Or you can show your real name and have some videos/photos to back yourself up. word, look at it like this: if mike benson can throw all this crazy shit together, u dont think he could make a more average snowboard video? he easily could and he is just trying to bring something fresh and unique to the table. These videos are meant to incorporate snowboarding with mini films and effects; They’re not meant to be all about the snowboarding. Mike Benson is innovative and I think its sick. I would rather not post my videos just due to the hatred that my opinions would bring to them.
My videos don’t matter though. As if you need to be some top notch film maker to be able to criticize other peoples films. That’s like saying any movie going audience can’t form an opinion about a movie they just saw because they don’t have the ability to make one.
I’ll be the first to say I couldn’t make these effects. I’ll be even quicker to say that I would never want to make these effects… especially in a snowboard video.

hey dumbass word and speilburg, look at it like this: if mike benson can throw all this crazy shit together, u dont think he could make a more average snowboard video? he easily could and he is just trying to bring something fresh and unique to the table. These videos are meant to incorporate snowboarding with mini films and effects; They’re not meant to be 100% about the snowboarding. Mike Benson is innovative and I think its sick. If he wanted to film a completely normal snowboard vid that is all about the riding I promise you he could. Stop hating on him for doing something different and unique

No, he can’t. He tried to make regular videos a few years ago. They sucked ass so he started adding in tons of special effects to hide the suck. Ever look at his shots? Every look at the riding? The giants of big bear is a perfect example. Out of frame, same tricks, and shaky follow cams. Without the special effects that videos was worthless.

i saw this video on newschoolers and the kids on that website talked less shit than they do on this website. I agree the snowboarding isnt amazing but seriously how many kids do you see in the park who can ride as well as casey wrightsman. Plus i noticed that in alot of the shots there is hardly a change in light or shadows meaning that he would basically have to land his tricks back to back. plus i like the editing and the end is really funny. “was I at least doing something legit?”

To all the people bashing, snowboarding has always been about friends and having a good time and i know that is what knife show is all about. Road trips with the homies, drinking a few brews and editing up some videos at the same time. Its all having a good time with the friends while you can still board.

id say ur pretty much a prick, who ever said snowboarding has to be one way, its all about creativity. Yeah some shots might not be good but does that matter? Still gets the shots, adds some twists and makes watching videos fun and interesting.
Rather than the same typical shots over and over again.

Too funny! Someone posting as me. Do you really think I would come on here to bag on someone else’s video? Do you really think I would use the word “Dood”? If you know me then next time you see me why don’t you go ahead and tell me in person all the stuff you just typed in your message.
If you are referring to Bear Treats being the same thing over and over, then ya it basically is. It’s called a video series and it was done every week in the same park. How about you go out this winter and make a web video in the park every week and see if you can do it better.

He couldn’t do the typical shots if he tried. He can’t even do a steady follow cam. He doesn’t still “get the shots”. He gets half ass shots and tries to cover it up with disney special effects. It’s sad. It’s not snowboarding.

This has got to be one of the best snowboarding videos i have ever seen. i was watching an old warren miller film earlier and it was all back country riding, not that its a bad thing. it just got boring after a while. i could watch stuff like this though for hours! {D
