Scotland Part 3: Nevis Range

When most people think about snowboarding in the UK they forget we do have mountains and in Scotland we get plenty of snow. Most of it gets blown about a lot but on the whole the season runs from mid December through to springtime. For me Scotland holds a special place in my heart, its where I learned to snowboard, where I have spent many a drunken night propping up a bar talking rubbish and where many of my best friends live and ride. I thought I’d start with a little guided tour of what is available to ride in Scotland.
Snow falls every year on the mountain resorts of Nevis, Glenshee, Glencoe, Cairngorm and the Letch. I am lucky to have ridden at all these locations over the years and can honestly say that with good snow and weather they are excellent fun. They have a charm and atmosphere that a lot of European resorts can only dream of and the locals are more than happy to welcome all comers. I took a group of UK Pros to Nevis to experience the wonders of Scotland as most of them had only ever ridden in Europe.

Although all the riders are from the UK, Andy was the only local. Rick and Collum had never ridden in Scotland before. Nevis in the back ground, the riders looking on in anticipation. Photos: Russ Shea

What? Unbelieveable mountains in Scotland, I thought there are these highlands with some hills but thats insane. Thanks TWS!

Really good article boys, that totally blew my mind. I thought Scotland just had a few foothills, and a little bit of snow that never really lasted. I mean I still have the assumption that the weather is a little hit or miss, but the size of those mountains is way bigger then I ever thought. A little bigger then what I group up riding - Winnipeg MB. If I make it to the UK I’m bringin my board, gotta make the most of what there is.
