VAIL, Colo.—February 26, 2009—Highline Sports & Entertainment announced today Spring Back to Vail, the #1 Spring Mountain Party in North America, will add an on-mountain film competition entitled the Breitling All Mountain Competition as part of the weeklong end of the ski season festival. The Breitling All Mountain Film Competition will feature teams of two people, one rider and one filmmaker, utilizing any terrain on Vail Mountain over the course of four days, Tuesday, April 14 to Friday, April 17, in order to create the most unique and original three-minute video. Filmmakers’ videos will be uploaded to a website for pro-judges and public viewers to access and judge. The winning duo will be awarded two Breitling backcountry emergency watches valued at more than $12,000 at the festival’s Saturday night headliner concert.
“Adding an on-mountain film competition to Spring Back’s already wildly popular festival is something we’ve talked about doing for years and is a natural fit for the event,” said James Deighan of Highline Sports & Entertainment. “We’re thrilled to have Breitling on-board for Spring Back to Vail and can’t wait to see what some of the world’s very best riders and filmmakers create during the four day competition.”
The Breitling All Mountain Competition Professional Division will include an invitational contest between teams of riders and filmmakers selected by JF DuRocher, IF3 International Freeski Film Festival co-founder and Breitling All Mountain Film Competition originator, as well as by Whitney Swenson from AE Betteridge, Colorado’s finest jewelry store. The Amateur Division will feature aspiring riders and on-mountain filmmakers, will be open to the public starting Tuesday, April 14 and will include an entry fee of $50. There will be a film premier party on Friday, April 17 at Garfinkel’s in Lionshead, Colorado. Various awards will be announced and the video clips broadcast at Saturday’s headliner concert.
“X-Games gold medalist snowboarder Steve Fisher and legendary skier JP Auclair are going to be part of the event,” said DuRocher. “I’m excited about the level of competitors that the Breitling All Mountain Film Comp will have and a complete list of riders will be announced closer to the event.”
