are you kidding me, everyone that is hatin on the event obviously wasnt there or have no idea how gnarly the dropin was and how much speed they needed even to gap the 20 foot hip gap and still spin big. It was so sick
i WAS there and there was NOT enough speed for these riders….red bull did a poor job on this one they had a sketchy run-in at best and made the whole setup way too big for the amount of speed these riders were getting
It had something to do with height restrictions for temporary structures in NYC…couldn’t make the ramp as high as needed. Disappointed that Red Bull didn’t change the set up, usually their events are more dialed.
I watched this as a live webcast and was very dissapointed in the announcers. Preston Strout seemed to be kinda muffled and not allowed to say what he wanted. also the riders were doing 720’s and the announcers kept calling them 900’s.
you cant even do 720’s or 900’s on a hip, your both stupid, it was either an 810, or a 630, or like 450. OR A 90 DEGREE SPIN, THOSE ARE SO CHALLENGING. yeah thi contest was poorly setup i ahgree with everyone else on the site
ok, so you want to get tech do you? You can’t do a 810, 630, 450 or a 90, on a hip. If you do say a straight method, you would be spinning about somewhere between 40 and 60 degrees. So instead of a 720, 810 or 900 it would probably be more like a 770. But really, WHO CARES, call it what you want.
too slow, no speed, landing hard and icey, announcers calling the event over b4 the last 2 finals runs were even done. oh did I mention it was not even a hip jump but rather a jump to crap embankments. the riders got hurt and the fans were disappointed. Hey Red Bull, how much did that contest cost again?
all shayne did was backsides. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
or if you were shaun white, you’d under rotate one of your tricks 90 degrees and still claim your trick hard as fuck in hopes that the judges wouldn’t notice.
the announcers were right. those 720s are considered 9’s on hips. technically ur rotating and 810 but u just call it a 9 because it would be stupid to cal it an 810. BEN i noticed that and its funny. im not surprised
If you start forward and land backwards its a 180, 540 or a 900. Even on hips, though someone will probably call me out on the whole air to fakie/alley-oop contention.
dude, i think its just tight that they did that in NYC. her in CO we get shit like that all the time, but those city people dont…and give red bull a fucking break…i’d like to see you try
red bull has done this shit before and they hold themselves to high standards especially cause of what might happen should they fuck up….red bull could’ve done a number of things about this to make it better….but didn’t
at least three of them did. I definitely saw Scotty Lago utilize that thing even though rumor has it, it was way dangerous and felt like it was going to rip your arms out of their sockets.
I was at this, and let me say: redbull wtf! They sprayed snow onto the ENTIRE spectator area. Why would spectators want to walk through 6 inches of powder and slush?! I went to this in sneakers when I should have had some god damn rain boots on. That was such a WASTE of snow, and a pain in the ass for anyone watching.
yea i agree you shouldnt be talking if you werent there. the drop in was a little bit sketchy and they could have had some more speed but the setup was still f*ckin sick and the riders could still go big. awsome event
WHat ever happended to loving shredn for what it is…??
Who cares if it was not what you wanted….what did you think a 300 foot gap goin 80 high?? Its snowboarding not a circus.
Think instead how cool it is on how far the sport has progressed….how it is now appreciated by the general masses and that you have contests in NY and other cities that bring the sport you love to your doorstep with all the riders you love to see.
It takes a ridiculous amount of energy, time, planning , money and genius to make those events happen from on hill to city streets…..instead of complaining you all should remember what the deal is….its called snowboarding, its fun and you do it, watch it, sleep it..
I don’t think a lot of you realize how big of a jump it really is. The Red Bull builders even said they don’t care how big it looks because it really is a huge jump the landing on the spine is just bigger therefor dwarfing the jump. The goal of the builders wasn’t to make a crazy big jump. It was just to try and build a man made jump that somewhat resembled the same feeling as hitting a natural spine jump in the back country, but at the same time staying safe. Also so that it’s not like every other stupid snowboard competition out there that Shaun White can go out and win again and again. Hence why Shaun White didn’t even touch the podium during the event. It gives a chance for some amazing snowboarders like Pospisil, Horgmo, and Lago to get some competition credit , because it was a competition that showed true snowboard talent. You have to admit it’s nice to see them win a big competition like this.
definitely man. it was all about raw talent that top three got to show off. unconventional comp style, made for the top finishers to be guys who can rip on anything.
Increasing numbers of chlamydia infections have made it the most widespread STD in the USA. In 1997 there were 537,904 reported diagnoses, corresponding to a rate of 205.5 per 100,000 population. However, by 2007 the annual total had more than doubled to 1,108,374 and the rate per 100,000 had risen to 370.2.

That was hilarious. I’m all about that claim. Toe edge scorpion, claim it! Get in a car wreck, claim it! Catch gonorrhea, claim it!
February 7th, 2009 at 4:09 pm
Red Bull had a tow in system that none of the riders bothered to use.
February 7th, 2009 at 4:23 pm
looks like the jump should have been smaller and less mellow.
February 7th, 2009 at 4:50 pm

but that was a sweet idea for a big air comp; looked really fun. yeah i agree if they had more speed they coulda went way bigger.
February 7th, 2009 at 7:55 pm

yeah dude, exactly,”and how much speed they needed EVEN to gap the 20 foot hip gap and still spin big”, waaaaaay to slow buddy…
February 8th, 2009 at 2:34 am
think of the water and energy that wasted……..fuck red bull
February 8th, 2009 at 3:41 pm
this event was totally (red) bullshit
February 8th, 2009 at 7:41 pm
even though it’s only a hip it’s still called like its a halfpipe
so instead of landing fakie on a 180 you land regular so its just a straight air instead of an actual spin
February 8th, 2009 at 7:42 pm
big boulder provided the snow so maybe you should place blame where blame is due on that INSIGNIFICANT complaint
February 9th, 2009 at 7:25 am

February 9th, 2009 at 8:03 pm

STD’s are rising faster than ever. It is common sense to simply take a home test if you have had unprotected intercourse.
