Mother nature cooperated again this morning, allowing the sun to shine and Torstein Horgmo to take the highest step of the podium during slopestyle finals. Joining him at the top was none other than Jamie Anderson, pulling ahead of Breck winner Spencer O’Brien on her last run to take first.
Jenny Jones strung together a clean backside 3 to frontside 5 line on the last two jumps to set the bar early on. Spencer O’Brien stepped it up with a backside 5 on the big side of the last jump, seemingly on route to taking her second Dew Tour stop of the season, but Jamie Anderson foiled those plans with a last minute run that dropped many a jaw. Stomping a switch backside 3 on the top jump, a switch boardslide to regular on the cannon box, and a huge frontside 5 on the last jump, Anderson took over the lead with only O’Brien left to drop. Falling on the same backside 5 that gave her the lead earlier in the morning, O’Brien stayed in second place, leaving Anderson in her top spot.
Scotty Lago stomped one of his signature switch backside rodeos in his first run to get the finals going, finishing his run with backside to switch backside 9’s on the final two jumps. Lago ended the day in 5th, one spot behind Breck’s young spin doctor Eric Willet, who awed the crowd with the first double cork of the day; a backside rodeo so nice he did it twice. Mikkel Bang showed off the incredible style that he is becoming known for at just 18 years young, barely missing the podium in the tour’s second stop. Norway was well represented on the podium today even without Mikkel; Andreas Wiig came in third for a run that showcased a smooth frontside 10 on the last hit. Shaun White surprised everyone with a backside rodeo off the cannon box, but in the end the 21-year-old Norwegian thwarted his plans for world domination. Torstein landed an insane switch backside 12 on the last jump of his first run. This was probably the trick that clinched the win, and rightfully so. It’s one thing to spin around three and a half times, it’s another thing to make it look as good as he can.

I don’t know about anything else but Shaun totally deserves credit for everything that he has done for the sport. Ya maybe a lil’ overrated but a backside rodeo off of a box…???… I’ll give him props for that one.

torstien is a fucking beast…..i thought the switch back 12 was an x-games/big air special thing but if he’s taking it to contest stops then the rest of the circuit better watch the fuck out….all the riders deserved what they’ve got and you can’t hate on white…..honestly burton was looking for him to be their poster boy for years before he won the x-games….he’s got more skill in his pinky than most of us have all together and it obviously takes alot to place up alongside andreas and a animal like horgmo….so lay off on the shaun white haterade bandwagon and give the man some credit….don’t forget he was basically riding before alot of us were even born

lago deserved a better score on his first run..soo clean and stylish. i was sitting in the announcers booth and even they agreed and were kinda confused. and he did a switch back 12 for his first time, never having tried it before..it might not have been as clean but it should be recognized..thats a huge trick that so few riders are throwing
January 13th, 2009 at 5:50 pm
what are you dumb? his 1080’s look better than most peoples 7’s. So relaxed and comfy in the pipe all the time, not to mention one of the most consistent riders out there

Gotta agree, he is a little mechanical but the guy throws down!
