Riders: Aaron Biittner, Andreas Wiig, Darrell Mathes, DCP, Devun Walsh, Eero Ettala, Eero Niemela, Heikki Sorsa, Iikka Backstrom, Jeremy Jones, Jussi Oksanen, JP Walker, Lauri Heiskari, Seth Huot, Wille Yli-Luoma
Double Decade has high expectations, as it is Mack Dawg’s celebration of 20 years of filming. Decade, definitely one of the sickest shred flicks ever, was the midway point to where they are now. Devun Walsh, JP Walker, Jeremy Jones, and Wille Yli-Luoma all had insane parts in Decade, and ten years later they all have put down equally insane parts. These guys are relentless, and so is Mack Dawg. This film offers a reflective semi-documentary style look over the progression of snowboarding that MDP has captured, with looks back at classic shred flicks like New Kids on the Twock. One thing MDP has always been good at is letting the riders show their personalities, and it always looks like they are having a good ol’ time. SO TO THE HATERS: SHUT THE F*** UP.
Some details—Eero Ettala is one of the most underrated shredders in the industry. Disagree? His opening section speaks for itself. Devun Walsh opens his part by showing he can still throw massive spins in the backcountry (you gotta see the crazy hit he boosts in the beginning of his section, also can be seen on September’s cover). DCP’s fast aggressive style is well complemented by a sick NOFX song. (Every shred flick needs at least one hardcore song like this) Jeremy Jones and JP Walker have pushed the envelope so far on wallrides, making it hard to think of how it could progress any further. Another veteran rider for Mack Dawg, Jussi Oksanen, shows he still has mad skills, as he never sacrifices style for his massive spins. He nails the ender for this flick.
Double Decade is worthy of its title, as Decade was, as JP Walker said, “monumental”. Mack Dawg continues to capture a great variety of urban and backcountry riding, with seasoned veterans and many of the best riders out there filling the sections. The soundtrack gets the go in this flick as well, with some songs that will be in your head while you shred. Happy 20th Mack Dawg, you get a 3 ½ out of 4 ass-kickers.

GET IT BEFORE ITS GONE……oh suppose i should like say FIRST or somethin…….but then i be like all the other fags who do it..so fuck that…GET IT
why would you even mention it?
mack dawg fucked it shit music that didnt go with the riding, a good idea is to get you itunes going and watch it… not dishing the filming that was sik but seemed like it was more bout the shot than the tricks, even thou the tricks were nutz.. but i wanna see then riding more regular stuff.. its a bit hard to relate to massive backcountry booter when most ppl spend their time have fun on resorts.. i ride park city is sik gets me way more amped to go riding
Hhhheyyyyyyyooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!
Im super stoked on the movie.
everyone throws down some insane tricks and it even gives you some shred history.
only compalint: wish it had a little more big mountain/ backcountry.
This movie is so freaking sick. Definitely a step or two above Picture This, but still not as good as Follow Me Around.
Jeremy Jones is a b!tch and hasn’t been good in 5 years. He needs to stop doing tricks that were cool in True Life and pass them off as good today. Grow up, you’re not good at rails anymore, you just look like an idiot. Remember how you joked that the dudes in Down With People made your snowboarding look good? Actually they just make you look washed up.
I have alot of respect for jeremy jones…
but your kinda right…
I think he should retire now while kids still think he’s cool…
I basicly start to think the same as you and then every now and then he does something that blows my mind…
(like that HUGE gap to lipslide he did 2 years ago)
Dude… your a dumbass. jeremey jones kicks ass. just cause you cant pull the kinda shit he can.. that makes you look like a chump. no respect man… no respect.
yeah i agree he needs to quit wile everyone that hasnt realize how shitty he has gotten realize it
why cant you just love what he has done for snowboarding! Jeremy is a legend and you should study his every move. (ps. fuck you!) (ps. im drunk) (ps. fuck you)
WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT! you for shure did not see his part from its always snowing somewhere its actually the best part of the movie he does some fucken crazy set ups with nothing then do some of the crazyest shit youve seen on a rail. jeremy still rocks more than you man
yeah he does “crazy set ups” but he doesn’t do RAILS. Finding some crazy “creative” urban spot doesn’t mean it’s hard. Joe Sexton is (was?) an AM until like a month ago and his entire part blows JJs out of the water. I’d like to see JJ back-lip that down-flat-down, switch back 1 on, etc etc. It had to get to a point where he’s just not at the top of the rail game anymore and that time is now. Just watch a movie like Guns Out, Stack Footy or Down With People and watch every one of them be better at rails than JJ. Everybody peaks, and it happened to him. Deal with it. He sure as hell is a better snowboarder than I am, that’s not the point idiot.
Learn some respect. He has helped shape snowboarding to what it is today.
Jeremy jones has been riding longer than most of you little bitches have been alive. He was nailing his first rail while you were still a spot on your parents bed sheets. Jealousy is a bitch aint it. Jeremy Jones is the man.
YEAH OMG TOTALLY RAD MUSIC, I MEAN THE FAINT AND THE SOUNDS WERE LIKE TOTALLY NOT PLAYED TEN YEARS AGO AT ALL
The last time I checked the faint just put a new album out. Think before you speak please.
for the most part the riding was pretty sick, still not as progressive as follow me around and frankly the editing was a s**t sandwich, it appeared that some parts had been edited to different songs or no songs at all the music was good it just didnt match the riding, especially in comparison to the rest of this years fleet of movies, there’s no way this gets 3.5 outta 4 ass kickers.
this movie doesn’t touch That’s It That’s All, the best movie of the year for sure!
haven’t seen the movie yet. but the teaser is dope
These interns didn’t give the most accurate review. Double Decade is a slightly below average film in the overall list of MDP films. Sure it’s a step up from last year’s sub-par “Picture This” but in comparison to classics like the Shakedown, this movie is nothing short of a let down. Don’t get me wrong, there’s some sick riding in the movie, but in all honesty, most of the riding wasn’t even on par with some older MDP movies as old as 5 years. I don’t mean for this review to be a diss and I’m not hating for no reason, I’m just saying that it would be a better idea this year to spend your money on another movie(s).
hey remember when the angry interns actually talked shit. that was the whole point. too bad transworld is too scared of burning advertising bridges to actually have an opinion on something. and theres no way you can say eero ettala is under rated. dude has a pro model boot board and binding.
This flick is sick Eeros section is crazy. I was a little disapointed as i had the idea in my head this was going to be a double disc “would have made sense”
and one disc was gonna be a mash up of every best section from MDP for the last 20 years…Kind of like what king pin did a few years ago.
Unfortunatly its not… But still a good vid and a nice soundtrack (Apart from NOFX) this isnt 1997 anymore people.
this movie sucked just like follow me around sucked last year. sweet you guys used a crane, dolly shots, and slo-moed everything and everything was in hd! holy fuck who cares! the music sucked and most of the riders are jocks. snowboard videos like this bum me out. oh yeah fuck jeremy jones he’s a douche.
bullshit, follow me around was fuckin off da chain!
Follow me around didnt come out last year… that was picture this. ps Jeremy Jones is a legend
worst soundtrack ever. whip it? what a joke…
follow me around was two years ago, dumbass
i cant wait first movie im gonna buy
Isn’t this MDP’s last flick too? I’m kind of stoked to tell you the truth. MDP has earned everything they’ve ever received for sure but for the last few years they have been slipping hard. Almost cookie cutter: good shredding, try to make it look like we’re fun and cool music and lifestyle shots, and the marketable shredders of the world.
I think 32 and Stepchild are onto something with the multi-sponsor, rider overlap, team video. Get real snowboarding back…
Or just bring back Robot Food!
What a dissapointment. And before you start to get all worked up about how great you think this movie is, read the rest of my comment.
1. Mack dawg has shown time and time again that they are the best at making snowboard movies. This is not debateable. I’ve seen just about every snowboard movie ever made and they just don’t compare. Now im not saying other crews can’t throw down and make a solid movie but in terms of riders, locations, cinematography, soundtrack, tricks they are hands down the best crew. Not only have they managed to produce countless videos that have motivated and stoked kiddies for decades and blown peoples minds but they have taken snowboarding to a whole new level.
2. Having praised Mack dawg for their brilliance, i am now going to explain why double decade was such a disaster. First of all its too damn short. I think andreas wiig had 3 shots in the whole movie. This guy has been killing it for years, and when we all cried out for someone to please get shaun white off that slopestyle gold podium who answered the call? Andreas did. Twice. So lets remember that not only is he one of the best riders in the world, but he throws down like no other. And still he gets no footage. And he wasn’t the only one with a short part. And i ask myself why mack dawg, who only puts out one movie a year (i’m talking about with this particular group of riders seen in follow me around, picture this and double decade) they spend more time showing off their ability to film in HD and not what the best snowboaders in the world can throw down. But i digress, on to point 3.
3. Why do we buy and watch snowboard movies? To get stoked on snowboarding and to go ride. Well during and after watching this movie, all i wanted to do was go watch down with people again. I mean down with people was unreal! they pick up riders like simon and joe sexton and mix them in with the people crew, add a bangin’ soundtrack and keep that “happy snowboarding vibe up.” One word: Magic. I loved it. So while i was “impressed” with double decade, i was much more “stoked” on down with people.”
4. I understand that its the 20th anniversary and all but can we cut the whole cheesy who is the best jibber? who is the best jumper? i really dont care that jeremy jones thinks that jp walked is the best jibber and that jp walker thinks its jeremy jones. i mean really, who cares, both of them slay it so lets cut the bullshit and the whole lets take this movie to talk about how much we all love each other and our riding.
5. why does it look like every single shot in this movie had a longer preparation time and set up than it took for the rider to stomp the trick. i can just imagine ettala stomping that sick backside rodeo off the side of that jump and hearing:
“cut! sorry eero the lighting was a bit off and to be honest it just wasn’t high def enough. can we get a camera with someone megapixels please?”
every single rail shot looked like it had taken days to get ready for. it just seems like its more about the shot than the trick. don’t get me wrong, i love the HD and all but lets take a second to remember what snowboardings all about. also i think there like 5 shots of actual riding in the trailer? i mean really.
6. im sure theres many of you that disagree with me or have your own opinions but im just throwing mine out there. trust me, i liked this movie, i was very impressed and continue to watch it. however i was just a little disapointed after it was hyped so much and it just wasnt what i expected. as for the riders, they all killed it, especially eero who always continues to innovate.
overall i give it 2 1/2 out of 4 ass kickers.
true.. and the soundtrack was crap, why have shit songs just to celebrate their history, how bout put in songs that goes with the riding and that ppl will get stoked on
good movie. i agree with the fact that we need to remember what snowboarding is really just about having fun
It’s MDP vs the rest.
Trick trick trick movies may get some people stoked, but they send me to sleep. Even before HD, MDP would mix it up with good editing, cinematography, progressive riding, and most importantly - originality. It doesnt always have to be about someone flinging a whirlybird, or even snowboarding at all. Their videos are watchable time and time again. I cant say the same about some other popular production companies (eg. Absinth, standard films), which are definitely cool to watch once or twice, and always have one or two standout sections, but boring let-downs amoungst the ‘lets see how many tricks we can squeeze onto one dvd’. To me it looks as though MDP basically say if the shot/trick isnt good enough, it won’t be in the film. I dont think I can pinpoint any obvious sections of their recent films where i’ve been let down.
I think the video debate could go on forever, but MDP have killed it since the release of Technical difficulties (shit that VHS has had a good thrashing..) Double decade may not be their best but it hasn’t put a dent on their progression at all. I mean, dissing the soundtrack because it has old school tracks.. you really think that wasn’t planned? this is a celebration of their second decade and these throw backs are for those like me who have been there since the beginning.
I look forward to the day when I can rely on a production company as much as MDP, who always release the most inspirational, must-have dvd for the season.
