ROME COMMUNIQUE:

ROME AND CONSOLIDATED BRING YOU THE LIMITED LIBERTINE DRUNK

10.13.2008

Should we support the idea that a brand’s roots, involvement in, and connection to snowboarding don’t matter?

Should we say, “hey, athletics-r-us brand, you haven’t given a shit about snowboarding for 30 years and your spandex-clad board of directors still don’t give a shit about snowboarding now, but that’s cool, come on in and make some money off us”?

Should we really accept them as a snowboard or skate company just because they can spend a ton of cash on some of the best, most iconic riders?  Does the ability to cut a big check magically turn a pair of figure skates into a pair of snowboard boots?

Should snowboarders lie down and accept it when the mainstream tries to reduce snowboarding to just some other generic form of “athleticism”?

If you think the same logo that’s on that nut-hugger swim suit, golf ball, tennis skirt, jump rope, baseball bat and rollerblade might as well be on your next pair of snowboard boots, what will snowboarding look like in five or ten years?  Will it be influenced in a way that’s true to our history?

Does any of this matter?

Does snowboarding even matter?

That’s up to you.

The Libertine Drunk, a collab between the Rome SDS and Consolidated Skateboards, is a limited edition get-together of two brands who think sporting goods companies aren’t snowboard or skate companies.

stupid. rome’s marketing campaigns have become total overkill. what the fuck does Consolidated have to do with a snowboard boot? did they give you the idea to sew bannannas on your shit or are they helping with your tight pants cred? snowboarding’s soul was sold a long time ago fellas. way to beat a dead horse. maybe next you can create an anti-oakley goggle with ashbury?

i agree with ben, the fact that rome is trying to make there brand so wide and big and popular is stupid. they should stay the same with there brand cuz personaly i believe they were doing good but dont need 2 do this. snowboarding should be snowboarding not some shit skating brand.

I agree with ben. It seems like Rome tries too hard, and probably met Birdo from Consolidated on myspace.

i don’t like rome’s advertising angles at all but they make a great point. nike has more fucking money than god. they turn a pair of dunks into a snowboard boot and expect that us as riders will be sporting the swoosh (which probably will be the case). nike just plays every sport because they have the money to do so. i don’t blame them at all because someone is making a lot of money and i wish that was me but rome is making an excellent point. you should care who is making the gear you rock on the hill because whether you like it or not, it’s an endorsement for them. i would love to have nike paying me money to ride and would take a deal over something with 32 or a smaller brand but you have the choice to choose what brands you put your body into and what has nike done to better snowboarding for you?

I like what Rome is doing and agree with them. Fukc Nike and there boots, I hate how big they have gotten in skating and don’t want to see it in snowboarding. I think the banana is a play on the swoosh, which is clever and funny. The boot is sick, if I see them it will be an instant buy!

Awesome. Consolidated just joined forces with the biggest jocks in snowboarding.

You know who the most annoying people on earth are? Sneaker twerps. All you nerds who collect Nikes and keep them in their stupid little boxes need to quit snowboarding. you’re basically just the new generation of Comic Book nerds.
Trust me, Rome doesn’t want you riding their boots, anyway. While you’re shopping at the mall (which is about the only thing you’re good at), we’re actually out riding. Die losers.

i like Rome….they make a great product..but this marketing slogan is getting really retarded. R-E-T-A-R-D-E-D in every way or form. Ben is right….beating a dead Fing horse to death. And it’s not gonna stop people from buying the Nike Boots….but I’ll tell you what it WILL DO. It might get a few to buy Rome’s Boot. So in essence….it is another big marketing ploy from the supposed Anti-Corporate. And it is getting mad transparent. I guess this is their Way….and I say it is not Correct….by any means

They should have just put a turd on the side of the boot instead. It would make more sense. Dorks.
