MissBoarder Women’s Snowboard Shop Opening in Lake Tahoe Area

Truckee, Ca., September, 2008

The first women’s specific snowboarding retail company, MissBoarder LLC, has formally announced plans to open its first brick and mortar location this October in Truckee, CA at 10015 Palisades Dr. The first “MissBoarder Boutique” will be located just minutes from several major Lake Tahoe area resorts such as, Northstar, Squaw Valley, Boreal and Alpine Meadows.

The shop “officially” opens its doors on October 13 th “, followed by a grand opening event on Saturday, October 18th. “ It’s gonna’ be a killer event,” said Jessi Ernst, Vice-President of Operations at MissBoarder LLC. “Live music, prizes, contests, the whole bit. The way we see it, we’re kicking off a new age in women’s snowboarding. Finally, girls are going to have a place to call their own and we plan to celebrate it.”

When asked how the MissBoarder retail experience will differ versus a typical shop, Ernst responded, “We’re definitely changing the atmosphere from what girls are used to. As opposed to walking into a male-dominated shop where they may feel like a second class citizen, MissBoarder gives girls the upper hand. This is where girls truly rule the hill.” Missboarder’s inventory will consist of several women’s specific brands such as Roxy, Nikita and Betty Rides while also providing women’s lines from Sessions, Flow, Nitro/L1TA, Never Summer, GNU and more.

Along with providing women with top brands specific to their needs, MissBoarder also takes pride in being an eco-friendly company. A link is provided on their site called “MissBoarder for Mother Earth”, which is an online access point to organizations and activities dedicated to living green. In addition to the website, the first shop will reflect their eco-friendly manner by utilizing available materials such as recycled paper bags renewable bamboo flooring and all natural wax from Pom Pom for tuning. MissBoarder will also carry an extensive inventory of snowboards and apparel that is made from companies who utilize sustainable resources like GNU and Arbor.

Started in 2006 by a family of snowboarders, MissBoarder LLC owns and operates MissBoarder.com, the web’s first online snowboard shop and lifestyle website dedicated to providing name-brand, women’s-specific gear and information to female snowboarders across North America and beyond. While visiting the site, you will find information such as the latest in snowboarding news, riding tutorials, videos, downloads, and chat/ information forums.

I wonder what the response would be if someone opened an exclusively male shop?

  • yep Says:

Another place for bay area yuppies to come pay full price. Catering to the bay is what Truckee is all about these days. This place will be gone in a season hands down.

  • uh huh Says:

Well why wouldnt truckee cater to the bay, all the locals here either get hooked up or pro-form their gear.

    Shops are for gapes.

    *best of luck!

  • super Says:

Sweet! Can’t wait to check it out! Being a local, and female, I’m psyched to go to a shop with some selection!

  • Ryan Says:

Wow….. Are we not pushing for progression of winter sports? I am stoked to see a shop that gets women involved in snowboarding more so then they ever have been. I did not realize people were such haters. I hope they kill it.

  • lady shred Says:

Ever search for women’s gear in Truckee?? Give that a shot and then see how you feel about an all women’s shop. This place will kill it cause the ladies in that area kill and are sick of seeing the same mainstream gear in every shop there. Good luck MissBoarder.

  • shredstick Says:

wow, sounds like the boys might be a little jealous!!

  • bonesaw. Says:

Shop should will be cool, I know everyone is working really hard to make sure it’s sick.

Why are people hating? Whats wrong with making hot snowboard chicks look even hotter, haha.

  • snowlove Says:

Sounds like all the guys are a little freaked out that women are becomming such a dominant force in riding to the point that they need more attention than the average shop can give. Don’t be so intimidated and stop hating guys! Support the ladies and give some props to MissBoarder. They are just helping women progress with a full shop instead of the back corner usually dedicated to ladies gear in most shops.

  • spooky Says:

If it was a dude, they’d probably say “sweet!” and not think twice.
