WHAT: More than 100 of the world’s most stylish and talented women in the action sports world will return to California this summer to compete in the highly anticipated Second Annual S3 Supergirl Jam. The unique three-day event featuring surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding competitions will run in conjunction with the 2008 Honda U.S. Open of Surfing and is guaranteed to be jam-packed full of fun extras such as a free skateboarding clinics, autograph sessions, sponsor booths and live music by The Donnas and The Clique Girlz.
WHO: The event will be hosted by a committee of four talented female athletes, Gretchen Bleiler (snowboarder), Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins (skateboarder), Kassia Meador (surfer) and Fabiola da Silva (inline), who possess the qualities of a Supergirl “actionista.”
Laura Hadar (snowboarder) - A fresh face to the S3 line up this year, Laura is known for her raw, gutsy and stylish talent. Growing up in Aspen, CO, and now a Salt Lake City transplant Laura has had access to some of the best terrain for honing her snowboarding skills throughout her career. At the age of 23, she has been practicing the sport for more than ten years and has been riding pro for one full year now. She has quickly established herself as one of today’s strongest rail riders. Hadar has a flare for style outside of snowboarding as well, she owns her own tres-chic art, fashion and music store in Salt Lake City, UT called Fice.
Lee Ann Curren (surfer) - When your dad is a three-time World Surfing Champion it is safe to say that natural talent probably runs in your blood. Lee Ann’s passion and adrenaline for surfing sets the tone for her desire for success, which she has jumpstarted in the right direction. The French surfer is dominating the elite class of women’s junior professional surfers and recently achieved the biggest win of her career to date, the Kustom Jetty Surf Pro Junior! At 18 years old this is Lee Ann’s final year of eligibility to defend her 2006 Women’s Pro Junior title at the U.S. Open of Surfing.
Lacey Baker (skateboarder) – Lacey Baker is part of a very small group of top female skateboarders that are raising the sport to a new level. She began skateboarding at the age of 5, but only started focusing on it at the age of 11. Now a high school junior, Lacey had an epic year in 2006 when she made the podium at five major street events including 3rd place at X Games. A passionate and dedicated skater, Lacey (who is now only 16) returned to the X Games for the second time in 2007. She is the defending S3 Supergirl Jam champion in skateboarding.
Cara-Beth Burnside (skateboarder) –A pioneer and role model in women’s skateboarding and snowboarding, Cara Beth will be the one to keep an eye on during the vert competition at the S3 Supergirl Jam. Burnside has won more than 16 titles in competitions such as the X Games, All Girl Skate Jam, Vans Triple Crown, Slam City Jam and Soul Bowl and in 2004 she was named Female Vert Skater of the Year by World Cup Skating. She is also the first woman to have her own signature skateboard shoe.
Additional participants include Amy Caron, Vanessa Torres, Chanelle Sladics, Gabi Viteri, Evelien Bouilliart, Lorena Lima, Lauren Perkins, Sage Erickson, Courtney Conlogue, Nikita Robb, Sally Fitzgibbons and Amy Nicholl.
