Snowboarders have one last chance to hone their freestyle skills during Alyeska Summer camp this June.
May 10, 2011 (Girdwood, Alaska) – Alyeska Resort is bringing back the popular freestyle summer camp product this June with two sessions, June 4-8, 2011 and June 11-15, 2011. Summer Camp is geared towards all ages and those of intermediate snowboarding abilities and above. The camp will focus on coaching “freestyle” skills – the now mainstream style of snowboarding focused around terrain park features and jumps made popular by the Winter X GamesTM and celebrity snowsport athletes such as Shawn White and Tanner Hall. The coaches that will be instructing at Summer Camp include Alyeska Mountain Learning Center professionals, coaches from Alaskan training programs Big Alaska Snowboard and Freeski Club and Alyeska Ski and Snowboard Club, as well as featured professional skiers and snowboarders.
In the past, Alyeska worked with third-party providers in hosting successful summer camps. The camp this year is solely run by Alyeska’s expert terrain park crew. The resort is bringing in the terrain park construction experts from Snow Grind, a company that specializes in snow park design, building and consulting.
Summer camp registration is available online and at the Alyeska Tram Ticket Office. Camp participants can choose from one, three and five day camp packages inclusive of lift ticket, coaching and lunch. The on-hill camp hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For more advanced skiers and snowboarders, there is a one-day lift ticket only option that does not include coaching.
