“That was the craziest sh*t I’ve ever seen.”
Oh, Janna! The ageless Janna Meyen-Weatherby and Eric “best hair in snowboading” Willett top one of the heaviest Slopestyle Finals of the year, while Jamie Anderson and Torstein Horgmo claim the 2011 Overall Winter Dew Tour Championship at Snowbasin Resort, Utah.

When Janna Meyen-Weatherby entered her first contest back in 1989, Spencer O’Brien yet to take her first step. Jamie Anderson had yet to be born, and the best-selling album in the States was George Michael’s “Faith” (awesome). 22 years on, and Janna’s still at the top of the women’s game, besting the previously unbeatable Jamie and the rest of the field at today’s Slope Finals. With a smooth Cab 5, back 3, and 50-50 transfers through the rail section, Janna’s high score of 96 even would be more than enough to hold off tour points leader Jamie (95), and Spencer (91.75). But all’s not lost for Jamie—with wins at the Breck and Killington Dew Tour stops already this season, she’d lock up the 2011 Dew Cup title before Finals had even began.
**Two quick things: the Johnny Cash sticker on Janna’s board is rad, and her response to the pretty inane announcer question “So, you retiring now?” was epic: “Um… Well, I’ve never thought of snowboarding as a career, so … no. I’ll call it ‘quitting’.”
The men? We’re not sure how many times “that was the craziest shit ever…” was tossed around, but it was a-plenty. And for once, the gratuitious hyperbole (“… That was so progressive!”) was legit—the level of riding this afternoon was ridic, with super-unknowns pushing the vets, and some of the largest doubles in Dew Tour history touching down without so much as a hand drag. When all was said and done, one of the most-liked kids on tour would hoist the Dew Tour trophy, with the all-smiles Eric Willett sharing the scene with young Canadian killer, Mark McMorris (2nd), and dubfire snowtrooper, Torstein Horgmo. Willett kept it clean on the rail section, and then god damn, boy—opened ‘er up on the jump line. Switch double back 12 (think about that for a minute…), to front double 10, and stomped—more than enough to earn the 97.25 top score. Mark would drop next, featuring some tech rail tricks and doubling his way onto the podium in second, and then Torstein began to strap in. Needing only to finish 6th or higher to claim the 2011 Dew Cup title, he drops in. Switch 2-7s, back nose 180, and then front dub to switch back 12. The tent erupts, and the camera immediately switches down to the cheering pair of Mark and Eric. As Eric would say later, “It’s a bit bittersweet, watching your friends stick their runs so well! [Laughs] You’re so stoked for them, but then you gotta go up there and do even better.” The score came in, and the 2011 Dew Tour was over. Torstein jumped his way into third, giving Eric the win and earning Tor the 2011 Dew Tour Championship.
**Two things: Tor got two practice runs, while everyone else got just one? Someone needs to explain that…? And we’re lost on the debate over if a “normal” switch back 12 or a switch double-cork back 12 is harder. Anyone? Both are insane to see, especially with how low on the landing both Eric and Tor were sending ‘er. Debate!

And that’s a wrap! On the eve of Valentine’s Day (hide yo wife!), much bro-love is in the air here in Utah. The awards ceremony is about to start, so get on down to Ogden and celebrate with all the 2011 Dew Tour athletes and fans. Congratulations to today’s winners, Janna Meyen-Weatherby and Eric Willett, last night’s Pipe stars, Kelly Clark and Luke Mitrani, and to Kelly, Louie Vito, Jamie Anderson, and Torstein Horgmo on their 2011 Dew Cup titles. We out!
