West Dover, VT (January 20, 2011) – The Kelly Clark Foundation, a registered nonprofit organization that supports young athletes in financial need to attend mountain schools in order to pursue their snowboarding dreams, today announced the distribution of its first round of scholarship funding totaling $11,500 that was awarded to seven young snowboarders to attend five different mountain schools across the United States.
The first round of grant recipients will utilize the scholarships to attend mountain schools including Carrabasset Valley Academy (Maine), Mount Snow Academy (Vermont), Okemo Mountain School (Vermont), Steamboat Ski and Snowboard School (Steamboat Springs, CO), and Stratton Mountain School (Vermont) for the 2010-2011 academic year.
“The reaction from the scholarships recipients has been absolutely incredible and is one of the proudest moments of my life,” said Clark, an Olympic gold medalist. “I have been so blessed throughout my career and it’s an honor to be in a position to help support others pursue their snowboarding dreams.”
The Kelly Clark Foundation awards scholarships to snowboarders looking to pursue excellence in athletics and academics through the attendance of mountain schools. Clark, a two-time Olympic medalist and three-time Olympian in halfpipe, is widely considered one of the greatest female riders in history. The West Dover, Vermont-native has won every major snowboarding title and event in the history of the sport including the U.S. Open, Olympics, Winter X Games among others. Her competition schedule for the 2010-2011 is due to include the U.S. Grand Prix series, Winter Dew Tour, Winter X Games and U.S. Open.
