Today was the kind of contest day everyone wants. Everyone at Dew Tour is stoked. For today’s pipe final the weather couldn’t have been better, it was super-bluebird and it set the stage. No wind, crisp temps. Riders were charging from the start of practice early this morning right through the best-of-two-run finals that ended after noon. Conditions were perfect for the riders to let loose. And they did so in doubles. Podlachikov, Ladley, Kleivdal, Lago, Laari, Davis, and others I’m sure I forgot all put up double-corks—the guys in the top spots obviously landed theirs. For the women, Kjersti Buaas put down a crazy crippler to land in third place, Sarah Conrad stepped up in her second run with amplitude to get second place. With two of the strongest women’s pipe runs of the weekend, the obvious winner was Queralt Castellet. Her two runs both earned scores in the 90s—combos like front 5, back 5, front 9 and huge air made her untouchable. Of her victory, the 21-year old Castellet  said, “I feel satisfied!” She’s from Spain, she’s gnarly.

Men’s finals went off. Double corks were popping left, right and center. Danny Davis owned it. His first run was as follows: Cab 10 Double-cork, frontside 7, Cab 7, frontside 10 Double-cork, switch backside rodeo. It was spot on. Scored 96.5—the highest pipe score ever achieved in WDT history. And, opening with the Cab 10 Double, Danny showed the crowd the most stylish Double-cork yet seen in competition. He held the grab for days. Iouri Podlachikov of Switzerland got second and also nailed the Cab 10 Double, backside 9, and fronstide 10. In 3rd, J.J. Thomas. He charged all day—his high scoring first run had two 10s. Local status aside, J.J. was a crowd favorite today and rode like a true pro. Slopestyle finals tomorrow. See ya.
