Mt. Baker opened Thursday November 12th with the deepest opening base in the history of Mt. Baker!! The 64 inches of fresh white fluffy stuff, attracted boarders from near and far to enjoy and share this much-anticipated day.
Here’s a photo gallery from TWS contributing photographer Ashley Barker’s visit…
Although the mountain offers a little something for everyone: hit runs, small park, a snake run, kiddy groomers, and cat tracks, it’s famous for it’s steep ass inbounds terrain, and endless access to it’s backcountry lovers’ paradise. The people here a real friendly and the scenes are breathtaking, and it’s no secret why this hill is home mountain to a handful of snowboardings’ finest pro boarders.
Come to Baker on a pow day and you will never want to leave.

November 17th, 2009 at 2:14 am
What happened to the global warming bandwagon and the fools that bought into it?

^Educate yourself a bit…The earth works on a time schedule much longer than most people can even fathom, the shit we have done thus far probably wont peak for another couple thousand years, that's if we stopped today. Just do your best to respect mother earth while you're here, she's stronger than any and all humans combined. The mere fact that we, as snowboarders, rely on the earth and it's natural processes to do what we love should be enough to motivate every one of us to respect the one thing that can decide whether we live or die in a matter of seconds.

Im sure you tell yourself this when you are driving up in your mom's SUV, put on all the snow gear and strap on that board that took a shit load chemicals, and energy to make, ride on a ski lift that gives off (more) greenhouse gases, and throw your trash off the lifts so stupid animals can eat it. The people like you and pros that preach global warming with a middle school education ( most of us don't have snowmobiles or get helicopter rides) are the biggest hypocrites ever.

1. I'm 24 years old and have an Environmental Science Degree.
2. My home mountain is 100% wind powered
3. I drive my own car and sled. And while you're so occupied convincing the whole world to stop driving when you could be learning about the subject, there are other organic and inorganic pollutants that are more potent and more abundant than C02, yet are overshadowed by the popularity of our "carbon problem."
4. I don't throw trash off the lift so "stupid" animals can eat it.
5. I'm sorry you feel those animals are so stupid, lets just kill them all and see how long we survive…
6. We live in America - voting for the president is cool and all, but our real vote is how we spend our money. Put your money where your mouth is and support the companies that use more sustainable practices, thats going to be the most influential thing we can do to help.

Al Gore didn't invent the internet, but he did make up global warming.
November 17th, 2009 at 6:26 pm
Wouldn't say he made it up, there's legitimate science behind it. However, he did blow it out of proportion, washing out other important aspects of our environmental impacts. And realistically, nobody really knows what will happen - warming, cooling, whatever.
November 17th, 2009 at 7:08 pm
Your home mountain is 100% offset by windpower credits… Not the same
November 17th, 2009 at 9:20 pm
yep and he got a nobel peace prize from it, cuz hes a tool. But at least he actually did something, not like obama. He was elected to get it after his 14th day in office!!!! How does that happen when he wasnt in office long enough to do anything? The nobel peace prize is like the X games, made for the most popular not for the ones with the most skill (shaun white)
November 17th, 2009 at 9:49 pm
umm, no….
November 18th, 2009 at 12:41 am
What is wrong with you people? Hating on Al Gore, Shaun White, does anybody on here have anything good to say? Shaun White is hands down the most consistent halfpipe rider in the world, and Al Gore just popularized a notion that maybe we should give a fuck about our environment. The only way you can hate on these people is if you yourself have had as big of an impact on ANYTHING as either of them.
November 18th, 2009 at 3:17 am
Im glad you're all too stupid too see how ill baker is, go back to tahoe you fucks!
November 18th, 2009 at 5:31 pm
+1, good job dont be a fool, people on here just like to rave about stuff they are uneducated about trying to reduce others to their stupidity. And about global warming, on the east coast it has been plus 50 for the past month. That's 15-20 degrees above normal and not for a couple days, but for a month.
November 18th, 2009 at 7:23 pm
Nice response man.
November 18th, 2009 at 10:13 pm

OK im just going to set the record straight…you can choose to believe this or not, but either way it still remains the TRUTH. Human-induced carbon emissions are definitely causing global warming. The fact that Al Gore decided to preach this doesn't change anything. The counter argument is, of course, that the world goes through several "warming cycles" (which we r currently in) and that explains the global increase in temp. However, scientists can resolve the issue by taking ice samples from antartica and examining the carbon deposits within the ice. They look at how much CO2 was in the atmosphere over several previous warming periods, as well as how fast the warming occured. What they find is that carbon emissions are much higher now than they had been ever before, and furthermore that the warming period is happening over 10X faster than it ever has. This is the big problem. So now we apply the science of how excess CO2 followed by decreased snow caps and increased land exposure causes this unexpected fast rate of heating and bingo there it is!
I have no problem with ppl choosing to believe what they want, but once again the truth remains…do not make a choice about any issue by your political views…demo or repub it doesnt matter. You should address any issue the same way…with logical intelligence!
