Stevie is funny. He laughs at everything, this, that, them, her, us, himself, and you! About the only thing he takes seriously is shredding. When haters thought Stevie would just be a flash in the pan—gone in the space of a season or two, he laughed at them, too, while he kept right on riding hard and partying his ass off. Positivity is on his side; whether he’s out filming, trying like hell to stomp in the backcountry, or just messing with Kennedy. He has the energy of ten normal people and some serious skills. Would he have lasted this long if he was just the “token black kid” on Forum and not a legit pro rider? No. Would he have spent a month in Whistler and taken the backcountry beating all winter long if he just wanted to slide down rails? No. And even when all his hard work in the backcountry got scrapped for the new Forum movie, Stevie remains upbeat. He is learning. He is riding on a wave of good times and good vibes and proving the haters wrong while at the same proving to himself (and his team) that his 110% commitment to shredding is well worth the effort.
Are you pleased with your part in Forum Or Against ’Em?
Kinda, I like it but I don’t, because I worked my ass off and got a lot of footage and they ended up cutting all my jumps and a bunch of other shit, so I guess no. I’d be happier with it if my jumps weren’t cut, but I’ll make sure they are all in there next year.
So, it’s all rails no jumps?
Yep it is, but that was not my choice.
In your part, you pose the rhetorical question, “Am I just pro because I’m black?”

This is where snowboarding is going? Hitting rails is not snowboarding. Gangster snowboarding was 5 years ago and has no business near a mountain. Filming snowboarding has gotten lame. I miss the old days when nobody was snowboarding.

haha did you read the interview? he’s not all about hitting rails, and neither are most snowboarders. snowboarding is all about having fun with friends and enjoying life. You’re just sad because your hobby is finally being accepted by society. why don’t you start doing needle drugs? those aren’t accepted by society and not many people do those! maybe then you’ll be cool and satisfied

i dont understand how some of you guys are hating on stevie like this for being a rail guy. hes obviously done something right to get to where hes at..which is on one of the most dominant teams in shredding. quit hating because hes got the life we all want. maybe if you stopped talking and did some riding you could get there too.

There’s only one reason the editors would cut footage from a team video. And that is… It wasn’t good enough. So obviously Stevie needs to spend a little more time learning how to jump. As far as the rails go, the kid has good steez but nothing I’ve seen from him is really progressive. Maybe that’ll change with the new video. No hate, just straight up.

His shit might be banging but that’s not really what his role in the whole marketing scheme is for Forum/Burton. He’s young, black, and is portrayed to only ride in an urban setting because it taps into a previously unhit market of urban, not rich, predominantly black, riders. They see that shit in a skate shop and boom you’ve got a whole new market. I think it might be nothing against Stevie’s riding just business…or his footy sucked?

There might be some point in weezys comment(above).. i mean nowdays snb’ing is becoming more and more commersial (which i find horrifying). And stevie could lead to a whole new market for forum/burton.. personally i think he’s a good rider and i’ve already seen him killin it in some backcountry footage, besides he seems like a legit, chill cat.. might be kickin some blunts too.. i mean he laughs at everything hehe.. but as we all know, burton is the biggest and most mainstream brand there is.. ofc they will be the ones taking advantage of a new market to get even bigger.. some times i get the feeling they got megalomania haha.. but on the other hand their boards(!) and the whole thing about snb’ing are too expensive for most ppl in the black community.. just a thought..

When did skin colour become who you “represent” on any team? Stevie was raised in SLC and still rocks out there, down to earth and chill as hell; ‘gangsta’ or not, we all have our personal style, and that’s what snowboarding is about. Haters may always hate, but we all started shredding to have fun, so let him have his fun — and until you’ve ridden with him or have seen him on the hill, shut your mouth and open your eyes. Yeah, big business and corporate sponsors have taken over the snowboard industry, but what hasn’t? Do you and leave everyone else the fuck alone…get offline and go ride.
