Wrightwood, CA – November 10, 2003 – Last week marked Mountain High’s largest November opening week in history. Senior managers are ecstatic about the benchmark and attribute the attendance to the surprising change in weather and exceptional early-season exposure.
Says John McColly, Director of Marketing, “We received a huge amount of media from being the first resort to open in the region. Plus we always open with good coverage and a strong assortment of terrain features so guests know what to expect.”
This year’s opening on November 3rd was Mountain High’s earliest ever but it came when most of Southern California was still reeling from wildfires that had burned house and home. To assist the Red Cross’s relief efforts, the resort donated fifty percent of its opening-day ticket revenues equating to roughly $30,000 in cash and clothing.
The opening jumpstarted sales at local retailers as well, and some sport shops are reporting increases of more than 100% in early-season purchases.
Says Tim Turner, owner of Powder and Sun, “Mountain High’s early opening has been an incredible boost and business levels are higher this November than the past five years.”
With new natural snow and cold snowmaking temperatures in the forecast, Mountain High will be opening more terrain soon including the Conquest Terrain Park and a Jib Park on The Wedge. The East Resort is tentatively scheduled to open Friday, December 12th, bringing the area up to full operation.
