Name: Darrell Mathes
Sponsors: Ride, Vans, Holden, Spy, Ambiguous, TechNine, Grenade, Active Ride
Shop, Shelter, Kicker
Years snowboarding: Twelve
Roots: Eugene, Oregon
Home: Portland, Oregon
Weight: 150 lbs.Stance: Regular, 22 inches wide, with eighteen-degrees angle on the front foot and negative-fifteen on the back.
Forward lean: For rails, none; for backcountry jumps, a couple clicks-I feel more stable that way.
Board: I really like the Ride Kink 147 ($350) for rails-I’ve done some crazy five-0s on that board. For freeriding, I use the Ride LeBlanc Pro 153 ($400), and the Ride DH 156 ($430) for powder.
Boots: Vans Fargo in black, size nine ($239).
Bindings: TechNine signature Darrell Mathes in black and red with Portland roses ($129).
Personal settings: Nope-I use that shit right out of the box.
Tuning techniques: I think there’s a special way to tune your board, but I have no clue. I don’t even know how to wax a board-every time I try to wax, I put too much on and it makes my board slower. So f-k it, I don’t even wax anymore-I just break out a new board because “I’m rich, bitch!” Hahaha!
Jacket: Holden FM in black ($240).
Pants: Holden Kohlman in black ($200).
Gloves: Grenade Safety Marshall in red ($58).
Goggles: Spy Rock Series Bricks with gold mirror lenses ($120).
Riding style: I like to shred everything. My ideal conditions would be snowy powder days up on Hood with all my local shredder dudes.
