Bear Mountain came closer to fulfilling the prophecy of an all-mountain park with the addition of the Vans Triple Crown slopestyle course last weekend. Shaun White and Janna Meyen were at no loss for the required skills—taking home a combined twenty grand and the slopestyle honors.
White proved again that it’s nothing but a game—the sixteen year old ninja-wonderboy prodigy also won the superpipe contest on Sunday. Fluid runs and mad combinations/variations put him a whole seven points (89.2) ahead of runner-up Marius Otterstad (82).
It was a one-two weekend for White and Otterstad, as the riders finished in the exact same positions on both days of the contest.
Janna Meyen rode away with the women’s end of slope. Rail tricks and spins set her above second place Natasza Zurek of Canada, and third went to Alexis Waite.
Next time around, watch for Palmer rider Lindsay Jacobellis—she flew a bs three nosegrab off the first mainline hit in practice, big shit with all the style. A bent ankle kept her from the contest this time.
Lucky man, Tuomo Ojala, third place finisher in men’s slopestyle, also got the Viking-like medal medallion that allows him into this year’s Arctic Challenge in Norway. Look for coverage of the AC right here at transworldsnowboarding.com between April 7—12.
