Breckenridge, CO (December 12, 2003) – Andreas Wiig (Borgen, Norway) and Tara Dakides (Mammoth Lakes, CA) claimed the top scores during Slope Style prelims on Friday, setting the stage for a great men’s and women’s final on Saturday. Wiig, who has been riding really well early in the season, looks to hold off other top qualifiers Pat Moore, Lane Knaack, Danny Kass and a slew of top names that qualified for the Slope Style finals Saturday. Dakides, perhaps the top woman rider of all time, has been disappointed by injury the past two seasons but looks to be in good form as she distanced all her competitors by at least 10 points. The women’s Slope Style finals for Saturday includes Olympic gold medallist Kelly Clark, Jessica Dalpiaz, Hannah Teter and Gretchen Bleiler. In addition to Slope finals, men’s and women’s Super Pipe will begin on Saturday as well.

The Mountain Dew Pro Nationals will consist of three events – Slope Style, Super Pipe and the Mountain Dew Rail Jam. In Slope Style, riders make an untimed run loaded with jumps, a quarter pipe and hand rails with the run judged on consistency and level of difficulty. In the Super Pipe event, riders utilize Breck’s massive Super Pipe walls to perform tricks judged on difficulty, execution and height. The Mountain Dew Rail Jam features riders each taking a stab at pulling off the toughest moves on a specially built competition rail in a less formal setting, but with big cash still on the line.
The $300,000 Vans Triple Crown of Snowboarding continues with the Built Ford Tough Championships at Mammoth Mountain Resort, Mammoth Lakes, CA, January 29 – February 1 and the Vans North American Championships, March 5-7 at Northstar at Tahoe. The Mountain Dew Pro Nationals will broadcast to a national television audience, airing on NBC Sports on January 17 at 3:30 pm EST.
