Wrightwood, CA – December 24, 1999 – Boarding for Breast Cancer is a non-profit, youth oriented organization that raises both awareness and funds for breast cancer research. Beginning with a single snowboard/music festival in 1994, the Boarding for Breast Cancer program has grown to a five-event fundraising campaign traveling to Stratton, Snowbird, Mount Bachelor, Mountain Creek and now Mountain High Resort in Wrightwood.
This January 8th, 2000, snowboarding athletes and celebrities from across the country will convene at the Southern California resort to help generate exposure and show their support. The event consists of professional and amateur snowboarding competitions, manufacture demos, games and raffles, live music and Breast Cancer Awareness & Education booths. “Mountain High is proud to host this event,” states Brad Wilson, Director of Marketing. “We are looking forward to an exciting day and hope many guests will join us in support of this worthy cause.” To participate, guests must generate at least $50.00 in pledges. Registration forms will be available the morning of the event or on Mountain High’s website at www.mthigh.com.
Boarding for Breast Cancer begins at 8:00am with a continental breakfast in the Bullwheel Saloon for all celebrities, athletes and participants. From there, guests are invited to watch the Hansen’s Halfpipe Expression Session taking place at 9:00am in Mountain High’s competition halfpipe. Former World Champion and 1999 X-Games Winner, Jimi Scott, will be on hand with many of his friends performing incredible aerial maneuvers. Following that, the resort will host a BoarderCross Competition in the Shaun Palmer signature BoarderCross Course, trampoline demonstrations by the Dryve Snowboard Team, a winter fashion show and live music from Flogging Molly, Karate Kid, Alien Ant Farm and special guests yet to be announced.
Celebrity announcer, Sal Mesacala, from MTV and ESPN Sports will help coordinate all activities from the sound stage and ad to the color and life of the event.
Participants must raise at least $50.00 to participate in the event. Those who raise at least $50.00 will be able to purchase an 8-hour lift ticket for only $25.00, a $9.00 savings. Participants who raise at least $100.00 will receive a free Convert, Board-A-Thon T-shirt, a $25.00 8-hour ticket and a free Night Ticket good any other day this season. For raising $250.00, guests receive a pair of Mantra sunglasses, a $25.00 8-hour lift ticket and a free 8-hour lift ticket good any other day this season. Generate $500.00 and receive a free lift ticket for the day, another free 8-hour lift ticket good any day this season and a one year subscription to Fitness Magazine.
The top three fundraisers will be awarded K2 snowboards and the overall winner will receive a free GT bicycle and 1999/2000 Mountain High Full Season Pass. As an added incentive, the first 50 participants to enter will be loaned a Suunto Watch that automatically tracks their vertical feet skied or snowboarded. The participant with the most vertical feet logged by 4:00pm will win a $350.00 Hollywood Bike Rack.
During the day, all registered guests will have access to the Boarding for Breast Cancer VIP area where Wahoo’s Fish Tacos and various drinks will be provided.
Boarding for Breast Cancer is open to both skiers and snowboarders and it is important to note that pledges should be raised prior to the day of the event. Says Wilson, “We want to have a huge audience at Mountain High this year with pledges in hand and ready to have a good time.”
