2007 New Zealand Open Halfpipe Qualifiers

Thu, Aug 9 2007 1:35 pm | Comments The Burton New Zealand Open is the first contest in the Burton Global Open Series. The NZ Open is also an event in the Ticket To Ride Series. It has been steadily growing in its five years of existence to counting over 230 competitors this year from sixteen countries. The contest is split into two disciplines, slopestyle and halfpipe. With an invitational quarterpipe jam taking place on Friday evening of the event. A lot of the big names to be expected at a Burton Open event are here to compete along with lesser-known riders. The 2007 Open once again takes place with all the help and love of the amazing crew at Snow Park.

On August 6th, the eve of the event the Burton team video for the 07/08 season was premiered here in the town of Wanaka. This was the kicker for the week and it has slowly progressed from there. Day one, August 7th, was designated as a practice day, allowing riders to get the feel of the pipe and get those legs ready. The pipe at Snow Park is up to par, meeting Olympic and X Games standards. Day two, August 8th, held all the qualifying rounds for men’s pipe and women’s pipe. Riders competed for 5 spots open amongst the pre-qualified riders. The riding was top notch and it gave a preview to the level that snowboarding is taken to at contests like this. It will be a great event.
