And now for all you X-treme sports fans, have we got a story for you.
Last weekend tens of thousands of spectators poured into AT&T Park in San Francisco to watch a bunch of extreme snowboarders spin and flip and fly through the outfield. But it wasn’t fly balls these daring dudes were chasing. No they were there to do tricks on their snowboards on a giant ramp covered in shaved ice.
You heard it, snowboarding in San Francisco.
In other news, pigs were seen flying along Ocean Beach this morning. Hey yo. Just kidding.
No, but seriously, these guys were all a part of an annual event called Icer Air. We’re told the boarders call it a big air competition. And apparently these riders are judged on their ability to fly through the air and twist and turn themselves like crazed gymnasts. Yikes.
Mary Lou Retton eat your heart out.
Some of the world’s most extreme snowboarders were there and all were swinging for the fences.
Travis Rice and Norwegian heavy hitter Andreas Wiig were also “corking it out as they say. And we’re not talking about illegally built baseball bats here folks; according to one of our interns a “corked stunt is a trick that includes spinning and flipping several times.
Wow, extreme indeed.
Another all-star performance came from Chas “The Buzzard Guldemond, who was doing twelve hundred and sixty degree rotations. We’re not sure why they call him “Buzzard, but the highlight real leads us to believe it’s has something to do with his uncanny ability to snowboard higher than the other competitors. There were some rookies on the field as well and all seemed eager to show the hometown fans what they could do.Ian Thorley, Jeremy Thompson and Tim Humphreys wowed the spectators with their astounding aerial acrobatics and ability to land upright, which we’re told actually helps you score better with the judges.
But, I’ll tell you what; those bloopers sure were funny to watch.
So that it’s folks, in an unlikely turn of events snow fell in San Francisco and thousands of local sports lovers got a glimpse of what this snowboarding craze is all about.
And those that we talked to all seemed surprised that it wasn’t the guys with the thickest necks or biggest biceps that hit the most “homeruns, but rather, the real MVP’s appeared to be the guys who seemed like they were having the most fun.
Who woulda thought?
