Mack Dawg and Standard Premiere At Spreckles

No matter how jaded and above it you try to act, it’s impossible not to get excited about seeing the real heavyweight production companies premiere their movies—you just know you’re gonna see something sick. Plus, sitting in a real theatre packed with all the shreds who spent their winter busting ass for parts in these movies and listening to everyone roar when something really insane happens—that’s an experience you just can’t replace.

So … the back-to-back premiere of Standard’s Paradox and Mack Dawg’s From ____, With Love in downtown San Diego last night was a serious affair, which is probably why the better part of the pro snowboard community came out to see it. And so did we. I don’t want to ruin anything for you, but I will say this: Mark Landvik holds down the final part in Paradox with a seriously career changing segment full of powder kickers and absolute annihilation, including one particularly sick backside seven off a rock shark’s tooth that he stomps and just continues on down, slashing a steep, steep face. MDP played the documentary-style travel version of their new footage (there’s also a solid shred edit organized by rider instead of place, but same footage). You just can’t go wrong unleashing dudes like Jussi Oksanen, Jeremy Jones, and DCP on places like Austria, Russia, Norway, and Tahoe. We’re psyched to see the other edit, too, where riders like Filippo Kratter and Chad Otterstrom—who didn’t jump on any of the travel trips but still held it down plenty—get their second in the spotlight.
