It’s October. Snow has already infiltrated mountain peaks in B.C., Montana, and Colorado. The season is looming large. How are you getting yourself ready to shred? If you’re like most pro snowboarders the continent over, you’re straight-up T.C.O.B.—takin’ care of business: pumping iron at the gym, staying active, staying strong, wheeling, dealing, and staying out of trouble—for the most part.
Check back for the second installment next week, with shred-readiness from Scotty Arnold, Chad Otterstrom, Chris Coulter, and Amber Stackhouse.
We linked up a bunch of teasers as well, watch those for extra stoke if you’re into it.
“I’m trying to be more proactive with film companies this year. I’ve been lucky enough in the past to work with companies that want me to take off in my own direction, but this year I really put time into getting with a company that I can run with a little more. I’m going to film with Absinthe—I’m really excited about that.
“Also, I’ve been looking for new things to do—not just in my home town, but all over the U.S.A. And I’m working on getting in shape again—running, riding my bike, using the elastic to work on my ankle and get it back into shape. I’ve been really trying to eat right, getting my vitamins and all that shit. Also been thinking positive—I have a lot of great ideas and I really want to follow through.—T.J. Schneider
“I’ve been doing a lot of daydreaming! I’m just going out of my skull waiting to strap in again—even though we were just riding last month in Argentina, I need more, like I’m a junkie or something. I can’t even imagine how kids who don’t get a chance to ride Hood deal with the wait till winter comes. I am actually going to the K5 event next week, a parking lot jib demo in Southern California, but that’s not the kind of riding I’m excited about. I want some early season Boreal.
“Sorry, I know I just got way off track. I’ve also been doing a lot of big business, planning my life into the new NeoDawgo film, finishing up my binding designs and ad layout, and trying to get a boot sponsor, find a place to live for the winter, and get a tune-up on my truck so I don’t have to worry about it in the snow. In the past, I’ve never been into going to a gym, I’d rather go outside and bike around or skate. I’d feel out of place getting in shape next to some Iron Man. But now that snowboarding is a semi serious job, I’m investing some time into my health and getting my legs bullet proof—I’m planning on eating some shit this season and can’t afford to get injured and not be able to produce a video part. It’s make it or break it. I’m no Chris Coulter about it—I like the guy, but he’s a serious jock about getting hurt, and that’s just not my style. I’ve had too many friends lose out on some great riding because of serious injuries, and I’m trying to stay away from that.—Robbie Sell
“I’ve been swimming, biking, and lifting weights to keep myself in shape. I had two knee surgeries this past year, so I want to make sure my legs are strong. I’ve also been buying lots of supplies for my journey out west, as well as making sure my truck and snowmobile will be working well this winter and converting the back of my pick-up into a winter slumberland by adding a topper, carpet, and insulation.—Zac Marben
“I have mostly been hanging at home. I went to New Zealand for the month of August, which was sick! Snow Park was amazing—good weather, great pipe. But unfortunately, there were way too many people there. Other than that, not too much going on with me. A little bit of hockey here and there in Breckenridge, but mostly taking it easy.—Steve Fisher
